Karaka Million Going International
20 January 2010
New Zealand Bloodstock's one million dollar graduates race - the 2010 Karaka Million - is set to be beamed live into Australia, Singapore and Malaysia on Sunday 31 January, courtesy of Trackside, Sky Racing and TVN.
Set to jump at 7:23pm (NZ time) at the Auckland Racing Club's Ellerslie racecourse, the Karaka Million 2YO (Res.L) (1200m) will see the leading two-year-olds graduates of the 2009 Karaka Sales compete for the one million dollar prize pool on offer.
With the Penang Turf Club hosting the region's meeting that day, the Karaka Million will be incorporated into the Penang Turf Club's racecard, which will then be simulcast into Singapore.
At the same time, viewers in Australia will be able to watch the race live on Sky Racing and TVN.
New Zealand Bloodstock Co-Managing Director Petrea Vela says the international broadcasts are invaluable exposure for the NZ industry.
"In just its third year, the Karaka Million Twilight Meeting is becoming one of the most exciting racedays in the country and we are thrilled that racing enthusiasts who can't make it to New Zealand can still get an insight into the highlight event that kicks off Karaka Sales week."
"The Singapore Turf Club and Penang Turf Club have been instrumental in facilitating the broadcast into Asia and we're very grateful to them, Sky Racing, Trackside and TVN for their help."
New Zealand Bloodstock's National Yearling Sales will commence on Monday 1 February from 11am.
