King's Rose Reigns in the Eulogy
13 December 2010
Group 1 NZB 1000 Guineas winner King's Rose took a step closer to the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Series title with an impressive victory in Saturday's $70,000 Group 3 Ezibuy Eulogy Stakes (1600m).
Racing off the pace and with no cover in transit, the Jason Bridgman trained King's Rose (Redoute's Choice x Nureyev's Girl) entered the straight mid-field and five wide and unleashed a strong turn-of-foot, powering past the race leaders to win the Group 3 feature by two-and-a-half-lengths.
Opie Bosson retained the ride on the filly after she took out the Group 1 NZB 1000 Guineas at her last start and rated her brilliantly in a confident ride. The daughter of Redoute's Choice is in a purple patch of form, stringing together three races in succession with Saturday's win her fourth victory from only eight starts, earning connections over $260,000 in stakes.
Running into second place was the talented Kiwi Lady (Ruby's Jester x Luscious Lady) who showed plenty of fight in the straight as she hit the front at the 300 metres. She tasted her first defeat on Saturday but she has clearly shown that she can match it with the best and will be one to follow in her coming races.
Third place went to Rememba Howe (Handsome Ransom x Yachting Magic) who continues to put in an honest performance at every start. She is a tough filly and hit the line strongly in the Group 3 to gain further points in the prestigious Series.
Bred by longstanding client of NZB, the Hong Kong based Dr Gene Tsoi, King's Rose has extended her lead in the NZB Filly of the Year Series to 18 points, 10.5 points clear of the second placed Rememba Howe on 7.5 points. Twilight Savings now moves to third with seven points with Kiwi Lady gaining three points in the race to sit in seventh equal on the table with Zennista.
A half-brother to King's Rose, Lot 466 by Red Ransom has been nominated for the 2011 Karaka National Yearling Sale Series in the Cambridge Stud draft.
King's Rose currently holds nominations for the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks and the Group 1 New Zealand Derby where she is rated a $12 chance.
The NZB Filly of the Year Series will be heating up over the New Year with the Group 2 $100,000 Cambridge Stud Eight Carat Classic (1600m) at Ellerslie on 26 December and the Group 2 $100,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Royal Stakes (2000m) on January 1, also at Ellerslie.
