Kiwi sprinter Famous Seamus (NZ) claims victory in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes.

Sitting three-wide with no cover throughout the 1200m sprint for rider Tim Clark, Famous Seamus proved his Group 1 class as he overpowered his rivals in a time of 1:09:86.

“It wasn’t the prettiest of wins and he was forced to race out of his comfort zone,” commented trainer Noel Mayfield-Smith. “It was a tough win due to the lack of pace in the race but that is what he is like.”

The winner of the Group 1 BTC Cup last season beating Buffering (Mossman), Famous Seamus will now head to Melbourne to take on Buffering and the world’s highest rated sprinter Lankan Rupee (Redoute’s Choice).

“He will go to Melbourne and if he handles the track, settles in well and it is not wet he will go to the Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley,” said Mayfield-Smith. “He is just a really nice horse to train, he is just so easy to do anything with.”

Famous Seamus has won 10 races from 33 starts and has earned A$918,500 in prizemoney for his owners Mr J Simpson & Mrs J D Simpson.

Bred by Keltern Stud Ltd & Trelawney Thoroughbred Ltd, Famous Seamus is out of the unraced mare Clinique (Dance Floor), the dam of fellow Group winning sprinter Ahdashim (Elusive City), a full-brother to Famous Seamus.

Owner James Simpson’s Flagtown Ltd Pty purchased Famous Seamus for NZ$70,000 at the 2010 Karaka Select Sale from Trelawney Stud.

Famous Seamus’ victory was one of three Group 2 wins for Karaka graduate’s on the weekend along with four Group 1 wins by graduates across three countries.
