Linton wins the G2 Herbert Power Stakes at four |
Racing under jockey Jamie Mott, Linton settled back in the field off a moderate pace and improved his position from the 700 metre mark coming wide on the turn. In the straight the six-year-old had to work, taking a narrow lead 200 metres from home which he held to the line to win by a long head, running the last 600 metres in 34.12 seconds.
Linton has been a consistent performer and has won a Group race every season during his career. He won the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes at three, the Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes at four and placed in the Group 1 Australian Cup. He then won the Group 3 R.A. Lee Stakes last season at five and again on Saturday as a six-year-old.
Formally owned by Lloyd Williams, Linton is now raced by Estrela Energia, Mr M B Talty, Mr M P Talty and Mr G Talty and has won six of his 23 career starts for just over A$1 million in stakes.
Linton was bred by Standard 2080 Ltd and is a graduate of New Zealand Bloodstocks 2008 Ready to Run Sale. Offered by Lyndhurst Farm, he was purchased by Rogerson Bloodstock for $275,000 for his former owner Lloyd Williams.
