Listed Win For $1,000 South Island Sale Purchase

Talented stayer Yogi (NZ) (Raise the Flag) took his earnings past A$300,000 with a black-type win in Saturday’s A$150,000 Listed Heineken 3 Port Adelaide Cup (2500m) at Morphettville – an outstanding return on a $1,000 purchase at the 2014 South Island Sale.

A last-start second placegetter in the Listed Warrnambool Cup (2350m), Yogi went one better on Saturday with a powerful come-from-behind performance.

The five-year-old sat at the back of the small field, then crept forward around the outside approaching the home turn.

He quickened impressively in the straight, bounding to the lead 250 metres from the finish and cruising to victory by a length and three-quarters.

“I’d like to thank Jetstar for cancelling Dean Yendall’s flight,” replacement jockey Damian Lane joked. “I was in the right place at the right time. The horse was super.

“I’ve ridden him a few times in work, and he’s always given me a nice field. I wasn’t worried about a lack of pace – I knew he’d have a better sprint at the end.”
