May Sale Pedigree Updates Complement Quality Draft

6 April 2011

Racing throughout Australasia and Asia has resulted in strong pedigree updates for the May Sale, with significant achievements also attained for Dormello Stud and their resident sire Duelled.

Dormello Stud have incorporated their Dispersal Sale into the NZB National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale, with 119 horses catalogued to go under the hammer on an unreserved basis. The draft features progeny by Duelled and Savabeel, and mares in foal to Duelled, Savabeel, Keeper and Fast 'N' Famous.

Already the sire of 10 individual winners in New Zealand, Australia and Asia, Duelled had a strong weekend on the track with his son Shootoff running a brave third in the Group 2 Myer Tulloch Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

Also performing well for his sire Duelled is the Graeme & Debbie Rogerson trained Endor who ran a strong second to Starcheeka in the Group 2 Manawatu Classic (2000m). A possible winter campaign in Queensland is on the cards for the three-year-old.

The mare Lady Love (Shinko King x Sky Blue Lover) at Lot 640 is a half-sister to Endor and will be offered unreserved as part of the Dormello Stud Dispersal Sale.

On Saturday the Dormello Stud bred and Graeme & Debbie Rogerson trained Savabeel filly Dowager Queen continued her current run of form, putting in a bold performance to run third in the Group 1 Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes.

The mare Molly Coco is a full-sister to Dowager Queen and will be offered at the May Sale at Lot 679 by Dormello Stud as agent (not part of the Unreserved Dispersal Sale).

In a major pedigree update, the colt by One Cool Cat from Gilded Light at Lot 750 is now a half-brother to a Group 1 winner in Midnight Oil (Keeper), who claimed the 2011 Group 1 New Zealand Oaks. The colt will be offered in the May Sale by Blue Gables Farm.

Weekend racing saw a strong pedigree update for the Last Tycoon mare Starnet (ex Fancy Miss) at Lot 465 from the Highview Stud draft. Starnet is a half-sister to Legal Consent (Danehill), the dam of Dreamaway (More Than Ready), the winner of the Group 1 WATC Derby on Saturday. Dreamaway has now won six of her ten starts, the last five in succession, all of which were at stakes level.

Tears We Cry (French Deputy x Missa Brevis) has been a quality broodmare at stud and is the dam of the ten-time winner and three-time Listed winner Good Nature (Way of Light). Already successful in the Listed Perak Derby, Good Nature won the Listed Selangor Gold Cup for the second time at the weekend, after claiming the race in 2010 and is now the winner of over NZ$1.3 million in stakes. Tears We Cry has been served by Keeper and will be offered at Lot 480 by Bradbury Park.

The weanling filly by leading first season sire Perfectly Ready from Tears We Cry at Lot 61 is a half-sister to Good Nature and will be offered in the Brighthill Farm draft.

It has not taken long for the strength of the new Horses-in-Training Session to shine through, with the first major pedigree update already registered with Picturesque now a half-sister to the stakes winner Platinum Princess (Keeper). Winner of the Listed South Island Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes, Platinum Princess also holds a nomination for the Group 3 Christchurch Casino Easter Cup at Riccarton on Saturday. Picturesque will be offered by The Oaks Stud at Lot 419.

Other leading pedigree updates for the 2011 May Sale include:

Lot 99 from Grangewilliam Stud, a half-brother by Thano to the runner up in the 2011 New Zealand Oaks in Zarnitsa (Zenno Rob Roy).

Lot 170 from Westbury Stud, the filly by Royal Gem from the Flying Spur mare Countless Zoya, now a half-sister to the stakes winner Atomic Force (Danehill Dancer).

Lots 204 (Cecconi x Faberge from Westbury Stud) and 380 (Captain Rio x Tarred n' Gold from Esker Lodge) are both closely related to top-line gallopers with Lights of Heaven (Zabeel) winning the Group 1 SAJC Oaks, and Ambitious Dragon (Pins) winning the HK-1 Hong Kong Derby.
