Mission Well (NZ) Conquers in Macau
20 April 2015
Kiwi galloper Mission Well (NZ) (Elusive City) displayed an impressive triumph in the Listed M$350,000 Lisboa Prelude (1100m) in Macau on Saturday.
Mission Well won his eighth raceday start for trainer Pat Lee, in what was his first attempt at stakes level. This was the three-year-old gelding’s third win and he has placed in two previous races, including running third in his last start, all at sprinting distance.
Ridden by K.C Leung from barrier four, Mission Well went to the rear of the field at the start of the race. A fast-paced race, Leung pulled Mission Well out on the turn for home to race through the middle of the field making a bid down the outside to apply pressure to front-runner Not A Single Help (Not A Single Doubt).
Mission Well exhibited an outstanding turn of foot, sprinting down the home straight for a one-and-a-quarter-length victory over Achilles Sword (NZ) (Fast’n’Famous) who pressed forward for second place and Vigormaster (Longhorn) finished in third.
Saturday’s win has increased the three-year-old’s prizemoney to M$499,740 for his owners Mr and Mrs Cheng Wing Bor.
Purchased at the 2013 Karaka Festival Sale by NZB as agent for $36,000 from Haunui Farm, Mission Well returned to the 2013 Ready To Run Sale at Karaka and was purchased for $65,000 by NZB as agent from Diamond Lodge.
Bred by Bob Tan, the son of Elusive City is out of Wellington Rose (Pins). Mission Well’s granddam, Country Rose (Centaine), is a stakes winner including winning the Group 3 Manawatu Challenge Stakes.
