More Mercedes Super Bonus Dollars Up For Grabs At Avondale
10 January 2003
The Mercedes Super Bonus has a high likelihood of being struck with eight of the eleven horses running eligible to win the $10,000. Of those eligible, the Paul Milich trained Bless (Slavic x Blue Tess) looks to be an excellent chance. Her consistent recent race form and smart track work during the week suggests she will more than likely feature in the finish.
Bless is one of three horses in the race to have already won a Mercedes Super Bonus with the other two being Purrfection (Tale of the Cat x Nothing Less) and Wooden Masque (Woodborough x Magic Move). Both Bless and Wooden Masque have won a $10,000 Mercedes Super Bonus while Purrfection took out a lucrative $25,000 Mercedes Jackpot Bonus.
The remaining Mercedes Super Bonus runners are the improving Golden Rose (Gold Brose x Enrichment), Waitoki Dream (Pentire x Calm Lover) and the debutants Desert Romar (Desert King x St Lucia), Ecstatic (Sandtrap x Straight Lady) and Year of the Cat (Tale Of The Cat x Luskin Lady). Desert Romar and Ecstatic have both placed at the trials.
Challenging the Mercedes Super Bonus contenders will be the well bred Danewhisper (Danehill x Golden), Alastro (Lacryma Cristi x Prav) and Genros (Generous x Pink Peppercorn). Both the Chris McNab trained Danewhisper and the Wayne and Tony Pike trained Alastro placed on debut and have a great chance in the race, while Genros is a first starter.
With the highlight of the Mercedes Super Bonus Series, the $500,000 Mercedes Super Bonus Classique, fast approaching on February 1 the connections of the bonus runners will be looking for strong performances to justify targeting New Zealand's richest race for 2YOs.
