Mornington Cup Win for Hofmeister
22 February 2007
NZB Ready to Run Sale graduate, Hofmeister (Daggers Drawn - Dancing Doll) survived a protest to securea three-quarterlength win in the Listed Mornington Cup (2000m) yesterday.
The seven-year-old, bred by Gordon Cunningham and David Haywood and bought by Brad McDonald for NZ$20,000 at the 2002 Ready to Run Sale, previously raced as Dancing Daggers when he was trained by Grahame Begg. He was subsequently sold as part of the Written Bloodstock dispersaland joined Robert Smerdon's stable at Caulfield.
Greg Childs lodged a protest claiming he had suffered interference on the hometurn but the placings were upheld to leave Forest Knight in second and Itstheone in third place. Hofmeister will now attempt to add next week's Launceston Cup to yesterday's win.
Hofmeister is one of four stakeswinners in Australasiafor his sire Daggers Drawn, formerlyshuttling toGordon Cunningham's Curraghmore Stud in New Zealand. The sire's other stakeswinnersinclude Group 1 winner Iflooxcouldkill, Group 2 winner Boulevardofdreams, and Group 3 winner Watchyerback.
