Leading home a New Zealand quinella, Mutlivictory beat home highly regarded kiwi Packing Pins (NZ) (Pins) who finished second.

Jockey Howard Cheng Yue-tin allowed Multivictory to settle at the back of the field against his normal racing pattern but, as the fast pace steadied turning for home, Cheng was able to improve his mount to be in striking distance in the straight.

Packing Pins looked to have race won until the late burst from Multivictory grabbed him near to the post to win by a head. Contentment (Hussonet) battled on for third a length-and-a-quarter away. It was Multivictory’s second win in his past three starts.

“He’s really racing well and gave us a big last quarter,” trainer Tony Cruz said, winning the race for the fifth time as a trainer. “I guess he’ll have to run in Group races only now with his rating after this but it’s not the worse problem to have.”

Multivicory recorded his eighth win with six placings in 33 starts and has earned HK9,133,700 for his Hong Kong owner Ronald Cheung Cheong.

Multivictory was purchased by Patrick Payne for $60,000 as a yearling at the 2011 Karaka Select Sale from The Oaks Stud.

Bred by The Oaks Stud, Multivictory is out of the Danehill mare Palmy, the dam of two winners from as many foals to race. He is closely related to triple Group 1 winner in Argentina Freddy (Roy).
