Music Magnate (NZ) Strikes Again in Brisbane
29 April 2017
A Group 1 winner in Brisbane last winter, Karaka graduate Music Magnate (NZ) (Written Tycoon) returned to Queensland on Saturday and scored another big-race win in the A$200,000 Group 2 Ellyce Galvin Victory Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm.
Ridden by Jeff Lloyd for expat New Zealand trainer Bjorn Baker, the five-year-old gelding led all the way and kicked strongly in the straight to win by a length and a quarter.
"I think a few horses who ran on that track today will know they have been in a race tomorrow,” Lloyd said. “It was nice to be on a horse which travelled so well and he was able to kick away in the straight.”
The biggest win of Music Magnate’s career to date came in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) last May, and a defence of that title is now on the agenda. The race now is run over 1200 metres and will this year be held on May 13.
“The Doomben 10,000 is his first call and then we can go from there,” stable representative Maddie Berkley said.
A son of the Danehill Dancer mare Concert Girl, Music Magnate was bred by NZ Thoroughbred Holdings Limited. He was offered at the 2013 Select Sale by Westbury Stud, where he sold to Baker to $45,000.
Music Magnate has now had 18 starts for nine wins, five placings and more than A$1.21 million in prizemoney.
