My Royal Captain Runs Bold Race In Dubai

13 February 2006

The Laurie Laxon trained My Royal Captain (Zabeel x Kiwi Magic) made a promising debut in his first start in Dubai, finishing third in the Gr.3 UAE Guineas (1600m - dirt) behind the undefeated Argentinean colt, Gold For Sale.

A $120,000 purchase at the Karaka Premier Sale in 2004, My Royal Captain has won three of his five starts to date and is being prepared for the $US2 million United Arab Emirates Derby (1800m) in Dubai on March 25.

While Laxon was in Dubai with the talented son of Zabeel, his Singapore stable continued to churn out winners, with Shanghai Hero (Blevic x Playtoss) and Why Be (Success Express x Charybdis) taking out the feature events.

Why Be, a $26,000 purchase by Bruce Wallace at the 2004 Select Sale, has won six of eight starts in Singapore, with a further two placings.

Laxon has won the past two Singapore Trainers Premierships and has six wins to his credit early in the new season.
