New Zealand Bloodstock 3YO Classique

8 April 2005

The final race of the Mercedes Super Bonus Series is scheduled tobe run at Tauranga on Saturday.

All three-year-olds that were registered for the Mercedes Super Bonus Series as two-year-olds last season were eligible to nominate for the $100,000 New Zealand Bloodstock 3YO Classique.

The successful incentive scheme was superseded by the new Thoroughbred Bonus Scheme which is administered by the New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders' Association.

This weekend's race has drawn a field of ten horses including Group 1 performer Spin 'n Grin (Spinning World x Smile).

The Mark Walker-trained filly ran an impressive second at her last start in the Group 1 New Zealand Bloodstock Breeders' Stakes at Te Aroha. She also posted back-to-back Group 2 performances at the Auckland Cup Carnival, where she won the ARC Cambridge Stud Eight Carat Classic on Boxing Day and the following week ran third in the ARC New Zealand Bloodstock Royal Stakes.

The hot favourite with TAB bookies, paying $1.85, Spin 'N Grin will meet the likes of Korau Road (Cape Cross x Just Cruising) on Saturday. The gelding, who is trained by Stephen & Trevor McKee, has won two of his starts and ran second to Mandela in the Group 3 WRC Hyundai Wellington Stakes in January.

Also from the McKee stable is the gelding Super View (Volksraad x Supreme View) and filly Scentee (Centaine x Entirely Yours).

Run Like The Wind (Pins x Gin Player) offers hobby trainer Sue Martin a chance in the race. The colt has finished first or second in half of his races to date, picking up three wins in the process. He beat Korau Road into second over a mile at his last start and is second favourite on the TAB's final field board.

The field for the race is as follows:
