New Zealand Bloodstock Completes Successful Breeze Ups
19 October 2005
New Zealand Bloodstock's Breeze Ups for the Ready to Run Sale on 15 & 16 November were completed today at Te Rapa racecourse in near perfect conditions for the young horses.
With the sun shining there wasn't a hint of the weather seen last week that forced the postponement of the Breeze Ups due to a waterlogged track. Instead the penetrometer recorded 2.9 on Monday and 2.7 on Tuesday providing ideal track conditions for the 325 horses that breezed over the two days.
Petrea Vela, New Zealand Bloodstock's Marketing & PR Manager, commented, "Over the past two days we have seen some very promising, well educated and well turned out horses breezing at Te Rapa. The standard just keeps improving each year and it was a great credit to this year's consignors to have their horses looking the part and getting the task done so well on the day. Thankfully the weather went in our favour this week and the horses breezing did a great job of displaying the opportunity that the Ready to Run Sale offers this year. We will now get breeze up clips produced and sent out to buyers over the next week and can look forward to a strong Sale in four weeks time."
This year 325 of the 356 catalogue entries breezed up alone or in pairs over the final 200m of the straight. Times have been recorded and are available for viewing in full on the New Zealand Bloodstock website by tomorrow. The Breeze Up heats included:
- A good pairing was seen early on Day 1 with Lot 8 Traditionally x Rory's Helen and Lot 107 Black Minnaloushe x Cheerful. Lot 8, the half brother to smart juvenile last season, Wahid (by Almutawakel), recorded a time of 10.54 with his partner recording 10.51.
- The fastest time was recorded on the first day by Mission Farm's Langfuhr colt at Lot 269, out of Balmoral Babe. This was the only horse of the Breeze Ups to break the 10 second barrier with a time of 9.97 seconds. A previous graduate of the National Yearling Sales Series at Karaka, the colt is eligible for the NZ$500,000 New Zealand Bloodstock 2YO Classique in February.
- Breezing on his own, Lot 38 Galileo x Street Star was one of the fastest times of Day 2. The colt from Esker Lodge showed the well-educated and promising youngster record a time of 10.33.
- Also breezing alone, the colt by champion sire, Zabeel, from Foreign Copy - dam of Cronus and Pravda - moved well to record a time of 10.58. His sire's sole representative in the catalogue, this colt should attract much interest, particularly following Zabeel's Caulfield Cup winner, Railings, and the Rogerson & Autridge trained, Activation, displaying a timely reminder of the sire's merits at the weekend.
- In one of the strongest pairings of the second day, the well bred son of Fusaichi Pegasus, sire of Dr Green, from Tremone Bay, showed he was also well-educated in his breeze up recording a time of 10.52. He breezed with fellow Kilgravin Lodge entry, a colt by Quest for Fame from Danehill mare, Account, who recorded a time of 10.53.
- The second fastest time of Day 2 was from Lot 119 from Halo Farm. The colt by Desert Prince out of Embassies (by Quest for Fame) recorded a time of 10.21. This colt's pedigree features the likes of Group 1 winning Zamoff (Zamazaan) and Group 2 winner Confectioner (Bubble Gum Fellow).
- The keenly awaited breeze up of the full brother to last season's top 2YO filly, Mi Jubilee, pleased onlookers with the well-developed Howbaddouwantit colt breezing well. He recorded a breeze up time of 11.59.
- Lot 48 (Traditionally x Te Akau Bird), from the fast Australian family of Ike's Dream and Opportunity (by Redoute's Choice), this colt is one of Haunui Farm's nine entries and breezed up in 10.89 seconds.
- The filly by Elnadim from Echostatic at Lot 117 breezed nicely to record a fast breeze up time of 10.21. The sprinting son of Danzig, Elnadim, was represented by emphatic winner at Caulfield in the Gr.2 AAMI Norman Robinson Stakes (2000m) on Saturday in Pendragon. Owned by Shadwell Stud in Ireland, Elnadim shuttled to Westbury Stud in Auckland for just two years. The Ready to Run Sale at Karaka in November will feature the last of his second New Zealand crop.
- Windsor Park Stud shuttle sire, Montjeu, has five entries in the Sale including a gelding from Humasong at Lot 147 and a colt from Isodara at Lot 153 who both looked the part on the day with breeze up times of 11.08 and 10.85 respectively.
Other sires represented in the breeze ups include Bertolini, Cape Cross, Carnegie, Centaine, City On A Hill, Commands, Daggers Drawn, Danasinga, Faltaat, Fantastic Light, Generous, Kashani, Keeper, Minardi, O'Reilly, Pentire, Pins, Postponed, Red Ransom, St. Petersburg, Stravinsky, Towkay, Traditionally and Volksraad.
The official Breeze Up clips will be available for viewing from Friday 21st October on New Zealand Bloodstock's website. For a video, cd-rom or DVD of the Breeze Ups, contact New Zealand Bloodstock 09 298 0055 or email haylie@nzb.co.nz. These will be available from early next week.
