New Zealand Horses Suceeding Hong Kong

Last night was no exception to the recent trend of kiwi horses winning at Hong Kong race meetings, with two New Zealand bred winners at Happy Valley.

The most impressive of the winners was the Gold Brose three year old Honour Supreme (Gold Brose x Chello) who won the class 3 HK$700,000 Hong Kong Rugby Football Union Cup (1200m), defeating Amo (Danehill Dancer x Rhythm and Romance) by half a length, with Certainty (Euclase x Ranch Lassie) a head back in third place.

Honour Supreme clearly thrives on Hong Kong racing conditions, as the gelding has so far fashioned an impressive record of three wins and three placings from just seven starts.

The five year old gelding Boxing Day (Justice Prevails x Champagne Queen) also won his race, the class 4 HK$570,000 Li Yuen Handicap by half a length over Ace Academy (Royal Academy x Aussie Consul). I Deliver (Jeune Homme x Newcomer) was third, a length back.

Three New Zealand horses also placed at Happy Valley.

Brose's Honour (Gold Brose x Midori Splice) ran a nice second to Comfort (Bellotto x Fiery Jade) in the class 5 HK$500,000 Pottinger Handicap (1650m), while Golden Promise (Sculptured Arch x Rakau Spirit) was second in the class 4 HK$570,000 Jubilee Handicap (1000m) and Touch Down (Kashani x Phantom Belle) second in the class 4 HK$570,000 Li Yuen Handicap (1650m).

Brose's Honour was purchased by John Cornish at the 2001 New Zealand Bloodstock Select Colts Sale for $57,500 from the draft of Westbury Stud.

Touch Down was an $18,000 purchase by Game Lodge at the 2000 New Zealand Bloodstock Festival Sale. The gelding was sold through the draft of Phoenix Park.
