Newcomers’ First Weanlings Unveiled

Belardo (Lope de Vega – Danaskaya) – A Champion 2YO who won the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes, Belardo also won the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes as a four-year-old. Shuttling to Haunui Farm, Belardo will be represented by eight weanlings at the Karaka May Sale from his first southern hemisphere crop.

Flying Artie (Artie Schiller – Flying Ruby) – Champion 3YO colt in Australia in 2016-17 and the leading 3YO sprinter in the world in his year, Flying Artie won the stallion-making Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington. As a two-year-old, he placed in the Group 1 Golden Slipper and Blue Diamond. The Newgate Farm stallion is the sire of Lot 154 in the Sale.

Rageese (Street Cry – Penaka) – By the breed-shaping stallion Street Cry, Rageese was a multiple stakes winner who also ran second in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes and fourth in the Group 1 Golden Rose. Standing at Windsor Park Stud, Rageese has one weanling from his first crop in the Sale, Lot 54.

Preferment (Zabeel – Better Alternative) – A top-class 3YO who won the Group 1 Victoria Derby, Preferment was Australia’s Champion Stayer in 2015-16 with victories in the Group 1 BMW, Australian Cup and Turnbull Stakes. The Brighthill Farm stallion has eight weanlings in the Sale.

Puccini (Encosta de Lago – Miss Opera) – A half-brother to the multiple Group 1 winner Sir Slick, Puccini was New Zealand’s Champion 3YO with victory in the Group 1 New Zealand Derby and three Group 2 races. He added the Group 1 Thorndon Mile the following season. Puccini stands at Mapperley Stud and has two weanlings in the catalogue.

Tarzino (Tavistock – Zarzino) – Champion 3YO Colt in Australia in 2015-16, Tarzino won the Group 1 Victoria Derby and Rosehill Guineas. He stands at Westbury Stud, and four of his first-crop weanlings will go through the ring during the Sale.

Telperion (Street Cry – Yavanna) – Another son of Street Cry to recently join New Zealand’s stallion ranks, Telperion was a Listed winner as a 2YO and placed in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes. He also finished fourth in the Golden Slipper. Five of the young Westbury Stud stallion’s first-crop weanlings feature in the catalogue.

Tivaci (High Chaparral – Breccia) – Waikato Stud’s Tivaci won six races, four at stakes level including the Group 1 All Aged Stakes, and he also placed in the Group 1 Cantala Stakes and Toorak Handicap. Five of his first crop of weanlings will be offered during the Sale.

Turn Me Loose (Iffraaj – Indomitable) – A dominant winner of the Group 1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas, Turn Me Loose later made his name in Australia with tenacious Group 1 wins in the Emirates Stakes and Futurity Stakes. He was New Zealand’s Champion Sprinter & Middle Distance Horse in 2015-16. Standing at Windsor Park Stud, he has four weanlings in the catalogue.

Vadamos (Monsun – Celebre Vadala) – By the multiple Melbourne Cup-winning sire Monsun, Vadamos was a multiple Group winner in Europe, headed by the Group 1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp. Shuttling to Rich Hill Stud, Vadamos has five weanlings from his first Southern Hemisphere crop in the Sale.

Vanbrugh (Encosta de Lago – Soho Secret) – Vanbrugh won the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes, which has been a stepping stone to successful stud careers for the likes of Savabeel and Dundeel in the last 15 years. He won two other Group races and was fourth in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas and George Main Stakes. He stands at Windsor Park Stud and is the sire of Lot 114 in the Sale.

A total of 81 sires will have progeny at the Sale, which will be held at Karaka on May 17. The 240-lot catalogue has been streamlined into one day of selling, brimming with pinhooking, breeding and investment opportunities.

The yearling session at the Karaka May Sale is your last opportunity in 2019 to secure a yearling eligible to enter the lucrative Karaka Million Series.
