Northland Breeders Stakes Winner Hong Kong Bound
17 July 2006
The Brent Gillovic trained two-year-old, Amazing Me (Deputy Govenor x Riverly Lass) was promoted to first in the Listed Northland Breeders Stakes (1200m) at Ruakaka on Saturday, following an incident packed race.
Seven Hills (City On A Hill x Cimarosa), prepared by Kenny Rae for owner and breeder, Lars Pearson was first past the post but was subsequently relegated to second, with stewards alleging rider Cameron Lamas had caused interference over the concluding stages when angling for a run. With the winning margin just half a length, Stewards reversed the placings.
The Ruakaka feature was expected to be a one act affair, with the Dean & Donna Logan trained, Jazzella (Black Minnaloushe x Jazzmatazz) sent out a raging favourite. The talented filly could only manage third, however, having set a steady tempo when leading throughout.
Amazing Me had placed third on debut before breaking his maiden at his second outing. Now a stakes winner after three starts, Amazing Me, who is owned by prominent owner, Peter Yip, is likely to do his future racing in Hong Kong.
The son of Deputy Govenor was an $80,000 purchase by David Ellis at the 2005 Karaka Premier Sale and is well related, being a full brother to 2003 Singapore Horse of the Year, Zirna. Third placegtter, Jazzella was a $40,000 Karaka Select Sale graduate, purchased by Donna Logan.
