Notable Updates for Horses-in-Training Session

24 April 2012

New Zealand Bloodstock's Horses-in-Training session at the May Sale (7-9 May) has received some timely pedigree updates over the last two weeks, with racing on both sides of the Tasman providing some impressive performances.

With 25 lots in the Horses-in-Training session, last weekend's racing provided key updates for a number of entries including the smart two-year-old filly Reais (Captain Rio) who put in an eye-catching performance when winning the Champagne Prelude 2YO (1000m) at Riccarton on Saturday.

Trained by Rachael Frost, Reais will be offered for sale at Lot 370. Saturday's performance saw the filly cross from her wider barrier to take the lead immediately after jumping, showing good pace and determination to defend her lead throughout, holding off the game challenges from Scapolo (Bachelor Duke) and Lucky Country (Darci Brahma).

Shoot Out

Shoot Out has a three-quarter brother in the session and ran a brilliant second in Saturday's Doncaster Mile

A bold front running filly, Reais now boasts two wins from her seven starts which have also seen her run three placings behind good fillies such as Marechal and On Yer Feet.

World class racing in Sydney on Saturday saw the running of the time honoured Group 1 Doncaster Mile which saw Shootout (High Chaparral) run a brilliant fast-finishing second to More Joyous. The multiple Group 1 winner, who has also placed in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes since the catalogue went to print, has a three-quarter brother in the Sale, Arizona Jazz (High Chaparral), who will be offered for sale at Lot 354.

Only lightly raced, Arizona Jazz has had just five starts and broke his maiden at his third appearance by an impressive four lengths. He also has two placings to his credit.

Dual Group 1 winner Shez Sinsational (Ekraar) made a winning return to the track at Tauranga on Saturday in a 1400 metre Open Handicap after a short break following her victories in the Group 1 International Stakes and Group 1 Auckland Cup.

The mare will now head to Brisbane for the Winter Carnival where she will target the Group 2 Hollindale Cup, Group 1 Doomben Cup and Group 2 O'Shea Stakes. The Horses-in-Training session will be offering a sister to Shez Sinsational, Repenting, at Lot 371.

Also on offer is the Captain Rio mare Paracetamol at Lot 366, a half-sister to Postman's Daughter (Postponed).

Shez Sinsational

The Horses-in-Training session will offer a sister to the dual Group 1 winner Shez Sinsational

A tough four-year-old mare, Postman's Daughter has been a solid performer this season contesting 12 Group races for a win in the Group 2 Counties Cup and multiple places including a second in the Group 1 Thorndon Mile. The mare added to her impressive record just over a week ago running second to Veyron in the Group 1 Easter Handicap and will have her final start of the season in this weekend's Group 2 Travis Stakes.
