NZB Insurance a Hit at Hastings

New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance's generous sponsorship of Hawkes Bay Racing's Kelt Capital Stakes day on Saturday saw a number of people reaping the benefits.

The winner of the $45,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance Premier (2040m) was the Mike and Paul Moroney trained Karaka Select Sale graduate, Shariat's On Fire (Keeper x Shariat). Having just his second start in open company, and being unplaced after one start in his first preparation, he has made speedy work of progressing up the grades with four wins and a second placing under his belt.

Paul Moroney bought the son of Cambridge Stud sire Keeper (Danehill) in 2005 from Rich Hill Stud's draft for $50,000, and he is now raced by Wellington-based owner Ian McCarrison. Shariat's on Fire has now amassed $56,125 in prizemoney and is to be aimed at the Counties and Avondale Cups later this year.

Experienced hoop Noel Harris couldn't quite get Everswindell (Align x Hilarion Lady) over the line in front for trainer John Sargent, going down by a short neck while the Lisa Latta trained mare, Nanjara (Kilimanjaro x Shafty Lady), was a length back in third.

Nanjara is also a Karaka Select Sale purchase, this time in 2004 by Kumeroa Station for $16,000 from Westbury Stud. Finishing no worse than third in nine of her ten starts, including winning on four occasions, she has now won almost $43,000.

Meanwhile, the winner of the $100,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance policy, in association with New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance's underwriters, Lexington Insurance Company, was the owners of the winner of Race Six, the First Sovereign Trust Premier (1600m).

Halls (Generous x Star On Ice) is raced by Mrs A, and Messrs I W D and M J Hall. Hailing from Waimate, the Hall Family weren't on course to enjoy the win however intend to use the $100,000 policy to insure their home-bred gelding who has now won four times from 14 starts.
