NZB Weanling, Broodmare and Mixed Bloodstock Sale Catalogue Out Now

The catalogue has been released online for New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale to be held at Karaka on 9, 10 & 11 May and printed catalogues will be in mailboxes this week.

This Sale has been a rich source of black-type success in recent seasons, producing 58 individual stakes winners since 2011 including Group 1 New Zealand Derby winner Puccini (NZ) (Encosta De Lago).

The incredible opportunities available in this Sale received the perfect endorsement just last month when Honor That (NZ) (Darci Brahma), a $4,000 purchase at the 2015 Sale, earned black-type with a terrific win in the Listed NZB Airfreight Stakes at Wingatui.

The likes of Puccini, Tavy (NZ) (Tavistock), What Choux Want (NZ) (Jimmy Choux), Rocanto (NZ) (Per Incanto), Electric Aura (NZ) (Shocking), Battle Plan (NZ) (Battle Paint) and The Dom (NZ) (Swiss Ace) have also performed admirably with black-type placings in strong company this season.

A total of 539 lots have been catalogued to go under the hammer at this year’s three-day Sale:

  • 294 weanlings
  • 16 yearlings
  • 11 two-year-olds
  • 7 unraced fillies or mares
  • 8 racehorses
  • 197 broodmares
  • 6 stallion shares

Particular interest will surround Lot 209, a weanling filly by Cape Blanco (Galileo) out of Indomitable (NZ) (Danehill). Offered by Mana Park, the filly is a half-sister to three-time Group 1 winner Turn Me Loose (NZ) (Iffraaj).

Weanlings in this year’s catalogue include the eagerly anticipated first crop of weanlings by the likes of Dawn Approach, Unencumbered, Camelot, Jakkalberry, Ferlax, Eurozone, Epaulette, Declaration Of War, Shamexpress, Albrecht and Sweet Orange. As well as proven sires such as O’Reilly, Tavistock, Choisir, Darci Brahma, Showcasing, Makfi, Jimmy Choux, So You Think, Alamosa, Ocean Park, I Am Invincible, Hinchinbrook, Pins, Shocking, Per Incanto, Iffraaj, Rip Van Winkle, Power, Foxwedge, Swiss Ace and many more.

Hawera-based Dan Myers, a highly successful breeder of many black-type performers including recent Group 2 Wellington Guineas winner The Justice League (NZ) (I Am Invincible), will present his entire crop of 2015 foals at the May Sale, including a half sister to The Justice League (Lot 234).

The draft is full of outstanding pedigrees and types, representing terrific opportunities for pinhookers, breeders and racehorse buyers alike. The Myers draft is headlined by Lot 9, a filly by outstanding sire I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) out of the stakes-performed mare Pipette (Pivotal), who descends from an international Group 1 family.

The broodmare section of the catalogue is also particularly strong this year, including stakes-winning mare Ritzy Lady (NZ) (Zabeel), Group One placegetter Corsage (NZ) (Volksraad), Group One producer Bianca Bay (NZ) (Bianconi) (dam of Levin Classic winner Dukedom (NZ) (Bachelor Duke), along with half-sisters to Group One winners Rollout The Carpet, Tarzino, Volkstok’n’barrell, Zabrasive and Dealer Principal. Lot 533 is a full-sister to Australian Oaks winner Gust Of Wind (NZ) (Darci Brahma).

The catalogue also includes broodmares in foal to the likes of Tavistock, Bernardini, Reliable Man, Sacred Falls, Showcasing, Redwood, Savabeel, Rubick, Roc de Cambes, Per Incanto and Rip Van Winkle.
