Karaka graduates proved themselves in some of Australasia’s most esteemed Group 1 races over the past 12 months or more. Ocean Park (NZ) (Thorn Park) delivered a fifth Group 1 Cox Plate in six years for New Zealand-bred horses, and Sacred Falls(NZ) (O’Reilly) raced to victory in the Group 1 Doncaster Handicap, also the fifth victory in six years for kiwi-breds in that honoured race.

International success was enjoyed with Ambitious Dragon (NZ) (Pins) flying the New Zealand flag in Hong Kong as he triumphed in the Group 1 Hong Kong Mile – the world’s richest mile race – and was crowned Champion Miler in Hong Kong for a second consecutive year.

Karaka graduates flourished in Singapore with Horse of the Year Super Easy (NZ) (Darci Brahma) claiming three Group 1 races in his career that included a run of 12 straight wins. A new star is rising in Singapore in the form of War Affair (NZ) (O’Reilly), the victor of Singapore’s Golden Horseshoe Two-Year-Old Championship who also made a clean sweep of the More Magic Three-Year-Old Championship.

These results add to the over 100 Group 1 races won by New Zealand Bloodstock yearling graduates in the past five seasons that have seen stakes winners in America, Australia, England, Hong Kong, Ireland, Macau, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and South Africa.

Eight of the 13 Group 1 winners last season came from the Select Sale with the average cost of these stars less than NZ$90,000, yet collecting NZ$8 million in prizemoney between them last season alone, an average of over $1 million each for the year. The Select Sale has also provided the most Karaka Million runners of any Karaka session in the race’s six-year history, providing the million dollar feature winner on two occasions.
