Berkley Stud's strapping O'Reilly colt provided the�highlight of the day's proceedings before a full house at the Canterbury Agricultural Park, setting a new record price for New Zealand Bloodstock's South Island Sale.

He opened at $100,000 before a fierce bidding war ensued with Victorian trainers Fran Houlahan and Brian Johnston finally bowing out at $220,000 as New Zealand Bloodstock as agent secured the colt for overseas interests.
Lot 165 is the sixth foal of the winning Waikiki Star mare Miami who has produced four to race, all being winners.
The price also contributed to Edwina Morris and Alan Jones' operation making 2010 their sixth year as the leading vendor at the South Island Sale with 14 horses selling for total takings of $344,000.
Queensland-based bloodstock agent, John Foote was the day's leading purchaser having secured five lots for $141,000. His highest priced lots were two sons of Yamanin Vital, bidding to $46,000 to secure Lot 140 from the Personal Escort mare Joe Leigh and $40,000 for the colt from a half-sister to Requisite and Rosa Marada, Lot 102.
Overall the day was slightly down on last year's figures with buyers more selective this year. Clearance finished at 71% while the average price for two-year-olds fell to $11,994 and the median at $7,000.
Overall the 134 lots sold contributed to an aggregate of $1,541,000 and an overall average of $11,500, just $200 short of last year's average.
