Parthesia (NZ) Lands Bagot Handicap

Parthesia (NZ) (Raise the Flag) has come a long way since she was bought for just $20,000 at the 2015 South Island Sale, and on Monday she won a black-type race at Australian racing headquarters – the A$150,000 Bagot Handicap (2800m) at Flemington.
Ridden by Damian Lane for trainer Darren Weir and owners Galadi, Parthesia produced a quality staying performance to beat another Kiwi-bred daughter of Raise the Flag, Etah James (NZ), by a length and a quarter.
Parthesia has now had 21 starts for three wins, five placings and A$263,600 in prizemoney. This was her second stakes win, having previously won the Listed Tasmanian Oaks (2100m), and she finished second in the Group 3 South Australia Fillies’ Classic (2500m).
Parthesia was bred by Brian and Hec Anderton and is out of a three-quarter sister to Blood Brotha (NZ) (Danzighill), who won a Wellington Cup and two New Zealand Cups. Another close relative, King Johny (NZ) (Seasoned Star), placed in a New Zealand Derby.
