One of the most impressive winners at Trentham on Saturday was the classy sprinter Passing Shot (NZ) (Swiss Ace), who overcame a wide barrier for a stunning all-the-way victory in the $50,000 Listed Dixon & Dunlop Melbourne Racing Club Lightning Handicap (1200m).

The four-year-old flew out of gate 12 in the 1200-metre race and quickly took command, dashing across the front of the field to get to the rail. He never surrendered his advantage, kicking fiercely at the top of the straight and holding all of his challengers at bay to win by half a length.

“He’s a good horse and he goes very well here at Trentham,” co-trainer Stephen McKee said. He’s very quick over 1200 metres, and to run 1:08 after jumping from the outside gate is a very good effort.”

Passing Shot has now earned more than $240,000 for the Go Racing The Ace Syndicate, who purchased him for $50,000 at the 2013 Select Sale at Karaka.

A son of exciting young Westbury Stud stallion Swiss Ace and the Danehill mare Derrydane, Passing Shot was bred by Westbury owner Gerry Harvey.
