Pentire Takes Two Carnival Features
2 January 2005
New Zealand based sire, Pentire, has been showing the locals what his progeny are capable of in the lead up to Karaka 2005, with two electric performances over the New Zealand Summer Carnival at Ellerslie.
After unbeaten three year old, Xcellent (Pentire x Excelo) took the Boxing Day feature in style with his win in the Group 1 Mercedes Derby, it was the Gerald Ryan trained, Recurring (Pentire x Donna's Habit), that flew the flag for her sire on the first day of the New Year.
A $40,000 purchase from the 2001 Premier Sale, Recurring won the Group 1 Waiwere Infinity Railway Handicap by a half length to Gee I Jane (Jahafil) and Festival sale graduate, Sedecrem (Faltaat).
Pentire is represented by 35 yearlings in the forthcoming New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sales at Karaka. These include a colt from Calm Lover at Lot 310, a full brother to Waitoki Dream, winner of the New Zealand Bloodstock 3YO Classique and who ran an unlucky third in the Gr.2 Queen Elizabeth Handicap at Ellerslie on Boxing Day.
