Plenty of Interest in Freshman Sires at NZB Ready to Run Sale

Buyers at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2014 Ready to Run Sale will have access to the first crops of 13 sires from New Zealand and Australia.
The two-year-olds catalogued in the Ready to Run Sale are some of the oldest progeny of these sires who include Beneteau, Captain Sonador, Equiano, Hinchinbrook, Lope de Vega, Makfi, Paco Boy, Per Incanto, Reward for Effort, Rip Van Winkle, Shamoline Warrior, Shocking & Showcasing.

The well-bred Beneteau showed precociousness as a juvenile, winning the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude and was placed in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes before injury forced him to retire to stud. His yearlings sold for up to A$170,000 in Australia and he stood at Arrowfield Stud.
Two horses by Beneteau are catalogued in the Ready to Run Sale – Lot 50, a half-brother Linked In – Po Ching King (H.K) who was a Listed placegetter in Melbourne before being transferred to Hong Kong, and Lot 358, a half-brother to the stakes winner Outskirt Girl.
Group 1 winner of the Epsom Handicap, Captain Sonador stood for only three seasons before his untimely demise. His yearlings sold for up to A$75,000. Captain Sonador stood at Raheen Stud.
Captain Sonador has one entry in the Ready to Run Sale, Lot 193 – a colt out of The Goddess who is a half-sister to Group 1 winner La Montagna.
A dual Group 1 winner of the King’s Stand Stakes, Equiano defeated some of the best sprinters in the world including Australians Takeover Target, Nicconi, Magnus & Gold Trail. He has already sired 14 winners from his first crop in Europe. His yearlings sold for up to A$420,000 in Australia. Equiano stands at Swettenham Stud.
There are two entries by Equiano in the Sale including Lot 212, a colt out of Zabeel mare Victoria Belle, the granddaughter of dual Group 1 winner Foxwood.
A three-quarter-brother to leading sire Snitzel, Hinchinbrook was a top class two-year-old winning the Group 3 Skyline Stakes. Standing at Yarraman Park, Hinchinbrook went on to be Group 1 placed three times as a three-year-old against older sprinters. His yearlings have sold up to A$250,000.
Three two-year-olds by Hinchinbrook are catalogued in the Sale including Lot 19, a colt out of Listed winner and Group 1 runner-up Laebeel who is already the dam of Group 3 winner Larry’s Never Late and Listed winner Collar.
Dual Group 1 winning three-year-old, Lope de Vega beat some of Europe’s best three-year-olds to be named Champion Three-Year-Old in France. Lope de Vega stood at Patinack Farm and has already sired 20 winners from his first crop in Europe. His yearlings have sold up to A$180,000.
A sole entry will represent Lope de Vega at the Sale, Lot 73 – a colt out of Naughty Minx who is a half-sister to Listed winner and Group 1 runner-up Sarah Vee.
A dual Group 1 winner as a three-year-old in Europe, Makfi was ranked the Joint Top Three-Year-Old in the world in 2010. He has already sired 18 winners from his first crop in Europe. His yearlings have sold up to $200,000 in New Zealand and Australia.

Makfi is represented by seven horses in the Sale including Lot 9, a colt out of Group 2 winner Keep the Passion, and Lot 161, a colt out of Sopra Tutto who is a daughter of four-time Group 1 winner Ethereal.
Triple Group 1 winner Paco Boy earned a Timeform Rating of 130 in his illustrious race career. He has already sired 23 winners from his first crop in Europe. Standing at Waikato Stud, Paco Boy was the leading first season sire at the 2014 Karaka Select Sale with his yearlings selling up to $110,000.
One two-year-old by Paco Boy is catalogued in the Ready to Run Sale, Lot 318, a gelding out of De Lago Lady who is a half-sister to triple Group 1 winner Maroofity.
A Group 3 winning sprinter, Per Incanto was unbeaten as a three-year-old and was crowned Champion Three-Year-Old Sprinter in Italy. The son of Street Cry, who stands at Little Avondale Stud, sired the winner of the first two-year-old race in New Zealand this season. His yearlings have sold up to $170,000.
There are nine horses catalogued in the Sale by Per Incanto including Lot 215, a half-brother to Group 2 winner Delbrae, and Lot 239, a half-brother to Listed winner Miss Millbrook.
Group 1 Blue Diamond winner as a juvenile, Reward for Effort is by champion two-year-old sire Exceed and Excel. His first crop of yearlings have sold up to A$100,000. He stands at Chatswood Stud.
Reward for Effort has two horses catalogued in the Sale including Lot 333, a colt out of Ellesmere who is a half-sister to Group 2 winner Courvoisier.
Triple Group 1 winner in Europe, Rip Van Winkle was World Champion 3YO Turf Miler and World Champion 4YO Turf Miler when trained by Aidan O’Brien. The son of champion sire Galileo is currently the leading first season sire in Ireland. Standing at Windsor Park Stud, Rip Van Winkle was the leading freshman sire at this year’s Karaka Premier Sale with his first yearlings selling for up to $375,000.
Six two-year-olds by Rip Van Winkle are catalogued in the Sale including Lot 381, a colt out of stakes winning mare Her Royal Highness, and Lot 153, a colt out of multiple stakes placegetter Sierra Dane.
A Group winning son of successful international sire Shamardal, Shamoline Warrior is a half-brother to Group 1 VRC Derby winner Rebel Raider. Shamoline Warrior stands at Bluegables Farm.
Shamoline Warrior has four horses entered in the Sale including Lot 290, a colt out of Cent to Win who is a three-quarter-sister to Super Fit, winner of the HK-1 Hong Kong Derby.
Group 1 Melbourne Cup and Group 1 Australian Cup winner, Shocking was crowned Champion Australian Stayer in 2010. Standing at Rich Hill Stud, Shocking is by champion sire Street Cry out of a Danehill mare. His yearlings have sold for up to $160,000.
Shocking is responsible for the second largest draft by a freshman sire of 13 including Lot 199, a half-brother to dual Group 2 winner Tinseltown, and Lot 316, a filly out of Group 3 winner Dawn Till Dusk.
A Group 2 winner and Group 1 placegetting sprinter in Europe, Showcasing has already sired 24 winners in Europe, the second most by a first season sire, including four stakes winners. His yearlings have sold for up to $180,000.
The largest draft from a freshman sire comes from Showcasing who has 14 horses catalogued in the Sale including Lot 83, a half-brother to Group 2 winner Cape North, and Lot 310, a colt out of Group 3 placed mare Danceabeel and half-brother to Listed winner Ishiabeel and Video Star.
