Racetrack Success Boosts Karaka 2019 Catalogues

While the fields are shaping up for the two million dollar Karaka Million races at Ellerslie this Saturday, the performances of the runners that have placed them high in the order of entry are making an impact on their relations catalogued at Karaka 2019.
Queen of Diamonds (NZ) (Savabeel) is currently eleventh on the Karaka Million 3YO Classic order of entry with a victory in the Group Three Eulogy Stakes and third placing in the Group Two Eight Carat Classic – both part of the NZB Filly of the Year series.
Her form has provided pedigree updates to a number of Lots catalogued in Book 1, majority consigned by Cambridge Stud from Sir Patrick Hogan’s successful Eight Carat family. Queen of Diamond’s half-brother, out of Love Diamonds, will go through the ring at Lot 177 while a filly out of a sibling to Queen of Diamonds is catalogued at Lot 180.
Further Lots from the iconic farm, and from the same family as Queen of Diamonds, include Lot 622 who is a half-brother to Group Two winner and current Listed Levin Stakes winner Gift of Power (NZ) (Power), and Lots 283, 432, 677 and 680.
Pencarrow Stud will present Lot 628, a colt by Pins, who is from the same family as Queen of Diamonds and current Group Three Waikato Cup winner Mongolian Marshal (NZ) (High Chaparral).
The highest rated three-year-old colt and filly in New Zealand are leading the order of entry in the Karaka Million 3YO Classic with Madison County (NZ) (Pins) first and Media Sensation (I Am Invincible) second.
With back-to-back victories in the Group One New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas and Levin Classic, his feats were timely updates for several Waikato Stud-consigned yearlings. Lot 625, a half-brother to Listed Carbine Club of WA Stakes winner Pinzu (Pins), and Lot 149 are from the same family as Madison County.
Media Sensation scored in the Group One New Zealand One Thousand Guineas following a triumph in the Group Three Soliloquy Stakes. Yearlings who have received a significant pedigree update include Pencarrow Stud’s Lot 97, a colt by Makfi, and Lot 501, a filly by Choisir.
Third and fourth on the table is Group One Levin Classic runner-up Hypnos (NZ) (Reliable Man) and Group One New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas runner-up Dawn Patrol (NZ) (Dawn Approach). Both three-year-olds have siblings entered at the Sale. Westbury Stud will offer Lot 872 who is a brother to Hypnos and Monovale Farm will present Lot 1064 who is an Ocean Park half-brother to Dawn Patrol.
A four-time winner, including at stakes level, Sir Nate (NZ) (Nadeem) stepped up to Group One form when he ran third in the New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas and moved him up to fifth on the entry. His victory has added appeal to Cambridge Stud’s Lot 116, a filly by Tavistock from the same family.
Surely Sacred (NZ) (Rock ‘n’ Pop), last start winner of the Group Two Auckland Guineas, boosts the pedigrees of two of Waikato Stud’s yearlings. Both Lot 88, a filly by Ocean Park, and Lot 92, a colt by Sacred Falls, are from the same family as Surely Sacred who currently sits sixth equal.
Currently sitting first and second on the Karaka Million 2YO order of entry is Aotea Lad (NZ) (Savabeel) and Whiskey Neat (Denman) respectively.
The star juveniles both scored victories on debut with Aotea Lad winning the Group Two Wakefield Challenge Stakes and Whiskey Neat claiming back-to-back wins, including the Group Three Eclipse Stakes.
Young guns Woburn Farm will offer Aotea Lad’s half-sister at Lot 651, by Makfi, while Inglewood Stud will present two close relations to Aotea Lad with Lot 246, a filly by first season sire Pride of Dubai, and Lot 309, a colt by Shooting to Win.
Bradbury Park have prepared Lot 490, a colt by first season sire Real Impact, who is from the same family as Whiskey Neat.
Group One Delights
The world’s premier miler Beauty Generation (NZ) (Road to Rock), who has scored two more Hong Kong Group One victories since the catalogue went to print, will have a half-sister on offer. Carlaw Park have prepared the Tavistock filly who will go under the hammer as Lot 443.
Champion 2YO of her year, Melody Belle (NZ) (Commands) stepped out this three-year-old season to win her first three starts, including back-to-back Group One feats in the Tarzino Trophy and Windsor Park Plate. Haunui Farm, who also sold Melody Belle, will offer her half-sister as Lot 208.
Dual Group Two winner Our Abbadean (NZ) (Lookin at Lucky) was unlucky when finishing third in the Group One Captain Cook Stakes at her last start. Wentwood Grange have her half-brother by Charm Spirit who will go under the hammer at Lot 81.
Hyde Park also have a Sacred Falls filly at Lot 49 who is from the same family as Our Abbadean.
Xpression (NZ) (Showcasing) added Group One form to her record when finishing third behind Media Sensation in the Group One New Zealand One Thousand Guineas. A Group Two winner, her half-brother (Lot 530) by first season sire Sweynesse will be offered at Book 1 on account of Nala Park.
Other close relations to Xpression include Haunui Farm’s Lot 212, a filly by Iffraaj, Milan Park’s Lot 598, a filly by Not a Single Doubt, and Woburn Farm’s Lot 494, a colt by Dundeel.
Since the catalogues went to print, Vernanme (NZ) (O’Reilly) has stepped up to Group One level and impressively placed second behind Madison County in the Group One Levin Classic at his last start. Valachi Downs have two yearlings catalogued in Book 1 that are out of siblings to Vernanme with an Iffraaj colt at Lot 117 and an Epaulette colt at Lot 138.
Curraghmore also have a Savabeel filly at Lot 345 who is out of Vernanme’s Group One-winning sister Rock Diva.
Karaka graduate Danzdanzdance (Mastercraftsman) has also added two further Group One wins to her record after the catalogue went to print, and Blandford Lodge will consign Lots 214 and 361 who are both close relations.
Fellow graduate Wyndspelle (NZ) (Iffraaj) recorded a fourth Group One performance in his career when finishing runner-up in the Thorndon Mile last start. Seaton Park will offer two Ocean Park colts (Lots 141 and 555) who are closely related while Trelawney Stud have catalogued a Per Incanto filly at Lot 189 and Windsor Park Stud a Shamexpress colt at Lot 518 who are also from the same family.
Te Runga Stud’s Lot 728 received a timely update when the colt’s half-sister Princess Kereru (NZ) (Pins), also offer by the farm, finished runner-up in the Group One Railway Stakes. Ainsley Downs Stud will consign an Al Maher colt at Lot 493 while Little Avondale Stud will offer a Dissident filly at Lot 647 who are from the same family.
Further Group One winners Santa Monica (Lots 121, 383 and 502), Galaxy Star (Lot 142), Trap for Fools (Lot 236) and Uni (Lot 314), as well as Group One performers Lizzie l’Amour (Lot 540), Gatting (Lot 294), Silvano’s Pride (Lot 320), Sensei (Lot 111) and Malaguerra (Lot 649) will all have close relations on offer at Book 1.
Stakes Winners
Performances at black-type level have delivered timely updates for multiple yearlings catalogued throughout the week.
Savabeel filly Love Affair (NZ) came out on top in the Group Three Eagle Technology Stakes and Waikato Stud have her half-sister by Ocean Park catalogued at Lot 349. The nursery will also consign a Savabeel colt (Lot 203) and a Pins filly (Lot 487) who are both closely related, while Cambridge Stud have Lot 369, a Tavistock colt, from the same family.
Another daughter of Savabeel, and the granddaughter of Ethereal, Supera (NZ) is a last start winner of the Group Three Anniversary Stakes and Pencarrow Stud will offer her half-sister by Makfi at Lot 421. Their draft will also feature Lot 187, a Vancouver filly, and Lot 272, a Redoute’s Choice filly, who are both closely related to Supera.
The winner of five of his six starts, including the Group Two Coupland’s Bakeries Mile at his last start, Te Akau Shark (NZ) (Rip Van Winkle) has showed a lot of promise in his short career. Cambridge Stud will present Lot 311, a colt by Tavistock, while Leanach Lodge will present Lots 69 (Rip Van Winkle) and 581 (Reliable Man) who are both closely related.
Following a second placing in the Group Two Royal Stakes, promising filly Secret Allure (NZ) (Zacinto) notched up a Group victory in the Group Three Desert Gold Stakes – earning valuable points in the NZB Filly of the Year series. Inglewood Stud, who sold Secret Allure at the 2017 Select Sale, will offer her half-brother by Shooting to Win at Lot 391.
The Group One performed Belle du Nord (NZ) (Reliable Man) added valuable form to her record when winning the Group Two Cal Isuzu Stakes. Curraghmore have her half-brother by Jimmy Choux who will go through the sale ring at Lot 1019.
Long Acres Stud’s Lot 937 received two updates after the catalogue went to print. The Super Easy colt is now a half-brother to two stakes winners with Air Max (NZ) (Nadeem) stepping up to black-type in the Listed Gore Guineas and Boots ‘n’ All (NZ) (Perfectly Ready) adding the Listed Timaru Cup at his last start.
Across the Tasman, Invincible Star (I Am Invincible) has been the horse to boost several pedigree pages. The Group Three winner and Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes runner-up recently added the Listed Starlight Stakes to her record. Henley Park’s Lot 525, a colt by Rubick, is out of a half-sister to Invincible Star while Lot 186, a colt by Windsor Park Stud’s first season sire Mongolian Khan, and Lot 194, a colt by first season sire Rich Enuff, are both close relations.
Haunui Farm will have two Iffraaj colts, Lots 239 and 646, who are from the same family as the farm’s Karaka graduate Celebrity Dream (NZ) (Thorn Park). The Australian stakes winner has added wins in the Listed Jungle Dawn Classic and the Group Three La Trice Classic since the catalogue went to print.
Highden Park will also present a filly (Lot 682) by first season sire No Nay Never who is from the same family as Celebrity Dream.
Rich Hill Stud will present two colts at Book 1 who are closely related to Group Three winner and Listed Counties Bowl Handicap winner (The) Bostonian (NZ) (Jimmy Choux). Lot 397 is by Tavistock while Lot 592 is by the farm’s late sire Pentire.
Manuel (Commands) scored his first black-type victory at his last start in the Kilmore Cup which was a timely update for several of his relations. Curraghmore will present a Per Incanto colt at Lot 342, Carlaw Park will offer a Showcasing filly at Lot 456 and Waikato Stud will consign a Sacred Falls filly at Lot 671.
Karaka graduate and Group Three performer Indecision (NZ) (Per Incanto) added a third victory at black-type level in the Hallmark Stud Handicap on Boxing Day. Waikato Stud have a Savabeel colt (Lot 226) who is from the same family, while Blandford Lodge have a Makfi filly (Lot 381) who is closely related.
