Record Breaking Business As Usual Highlights Winter Sale Broodmare
9 July 2010
The record shattering price achieved by Business As Usual at the Tattersalls July Sale has shone the spotlight on broodmare, Prefer Blondes, who features as Lot 59 in New Zealand Bloodstock's Winter Mixed Bloodstock Sale.
Introduced by Tattersalls auctioneer Oliver Fowlston as a 'Group winner waiting to happen', Business As Usual has won two of only four career starts. The promising three-year-old's most recent victory saw him triumph over subsequent Royal Ascot Britannia Handicap winner Ransom Note, Rated 111p by Timeform.
After fierce bidding, between Kern/Lillingston's Alastair Donald and Qatari buyer Ibrahim Al Malki, the hammer came down at 460,000 guineas in favour of Donald, shattering the previous Sale record of 380,000 guineas. Business As Usual is heading to the Hong Kong stable of trainer John Moore where it is anticipated that plans for him involve the Hong Kong Derby in March 2011.
Prefer Blondes is a half sister to Business As Usual's dam Lesgor. Both Prefer Blondes and Lesgor are daughters of the Ollie Goodwin bred Let's Sgor (Creag-An-Sgor x Alycide). Champion three-year-old filly in New Zealand in 1990, Let's Sgor claimed two Group 1 titles, one Listed victory and multiple black type places before heading to the United States where she continued to notch up stakes places.
Prefer Blondes has been served by Darci Brahma making her one to watch during the one day Sale at Karaka set for 1 August.
