The son of Henrythenavigator has been a consistent performer on the Macau circuit, winning four and finishing second on three occasions from his seven starts this season. He also won the Listed M$700,000 Autumn Trophy (1600m) in November.

Starting from barrier 2 for jockey W L Ho, Sandtop settled towards the rear of the field on the rail. Soon after entering the straight, a gap appeared and Sandtop raced through one off the fence to grab leader Best Of Luck (NZ) (Thorn Park), to win by a length. Bobo So Cute (NZ) (Savabeel), ran on well from the rear to finish third, a further three-and-a-half lengths back, making it a Karaka trifecta.

The S Cheong trained four-year-old gelding has won seven and has seven minor placings from 17 starts and earned M$1,652,550 for owner King Ho.

King Ho purchased Sandtrap at the 2013 Karaka Premier Sale (Lot 146) for NZ$50,000 from Hallmark Stud.

Sandtop is out of Flawless (Zabeel), a full-sister to dual Listed winner Zabene (Zabeel) and is a half-sister to Knight’s Command (Pins), dual Sgp-3 winner. From the same family as Group 1 Caulfield Guineas winner Shooting to Win (Northern Meteor). His second dam, Emerald Dream (Danehill) won the Group 1 Cambridge International Stakes.
