Satono Glow (NZ) Adds Breeders’ Stakes to Perfect Record
30 March 2026
Exciting two-year-old filly Satono Glow (NZ) (Satono Aladdin) stepped up to stakes level at Flemington on Saturday and remained undefeated with a dominant performance in the A$200,000 Group Three TBV Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes (1200m).
Windsor Park Stud offered Satono Glow during Book 1 of Karaka 2025, where she was bought by O’Shea Charlton Racing and James Bester Bloodstock for $260,000. Her two-start, two-win career has so far banked A$151,100 along with enormously valuable black type.
Satono Glow began her career with a half-length success over 1000 metres at Warwick Farm on March 11. Saturday’s assignment was a significant step up in class, but she handled it in style.
Ridden by Jamie Melham for trainers John O’Shea and Tom Charlton, Satono Glow sat in third spot before taking command with an explosive turn of foot halfway down the straight.
Melham began to ease Satono Glow down in the final few strides and she crossed the finish line three lengths clear of her nearest challenger.
“I was confident, but with fillies down the straight for the first time, you don’t want to leave it too late because they can promise the world and then get lost,” Melham said.
“Credit to the team educating this little filly. She was a bombproof ride today, and I feel that the Sydney horses normally go well in the wet as they are used to being trained on the softer tracks up there.
“She loved the wet today and the way she got through it, this horse was a very easy ride in the end.
“Her attitude really impressed me. She’s a small horse to the eye, but the feel she gave me, she felt like she had a really big stride underneath her and she settled like she will get further in time.”
O’Shea and Charlton was represented at Flemington by Jade Lys.
“We couldn’t have been happier with this filly since her first start,” Lys said. “She’s been doing everything so well.
“She won in the soft last start, so we were not worried about the rain today.
“We will see how she comes through this run and get her back to Sydney and see how she goes from there.”
Satono Glow was bred by Dr Phillip Chen and is out of Electrode (NZ) (Pins), a twice-winning half-sister to the stakes winners So Wotif (NZ) (Iffraaj) and Bonniegirl (NZ) (Darci Brahma).
Electrode is the dam of three foals to race, all of them winners, and Satono Glow is the second stakes performer. Her half-sister Kitty Flash (NZ) (Ace High) has placed in the Group Two Levin Classic (1400m), Group Two Soliloquy Stakes (1400m), Group Three Spring Sprint (1400m) and Group Three J Swap Sprint (1400m).
