Satono Glow (NZ) Stamps Group One Credentials
11 October 2026
Karaka graduate Satono Glow (NZ) (Satono Aladdin) has the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) squarely in her sights after a superb come-from-behind victory in the A$300,000 Group Two TAB Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
Bought by O’Shea Charlton Racing and James Bester Bloodstock for $260,000 from the Karaka 2025 Book 1 draft of Windsor Park Stud, Satono Glow has had five starts for four wins and A$487,660 in stakes.
Previously the winner of the Group Three TBV Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes (1200m) and Group Three Cap d’Antibes Stakes (1200m), Satono Glow stepped up to Group Two level in style on Saturday for jockey Zac Lloyd.
She settled in the back of the field as the favourite Paradoxium (Extreme Choice) set the pace, and that rival looked hard to catch as he kicked away at the top of the home straight.
But Lloyd let Satono Glow rip and she charged down the outside, sweeping past Paradoxium and going on to win by a length and a quarter.
“She’s a very good filly,” O’Shea said. “Paradoxium is a good colt, so for her to run him down, it was a big effort.
“We wanted to see where we fit in. She’s ticked every box so far, and this race traditionally has always provided good form for the Coolmore.”
The Coolmore Stud Stakes will be run at Flemington on October 31.
“We wanted to bring her home, keep her under our eye, and that was the rationale behind running here today,” O’Shea said. “I thought she did a good job first-up, and then she has had a little tick-over trial.
“It has all worked nicely so far, so hopefully we can have a good next three weeks and turn up in Melbourne to give a good account of herself.”
Saturday’s win made a favourable impression on Lloyd.
“She is pretty smart,” he said. “As you see in the mounting yard and after the race, she’s so professional and knows her job. That’s half the battle. The other half is ability, and she has a lot of it.
“Obviously it is hard coming the widest around Rosehill and picking up pretty good horses like Paradoxium, but once I brought her out and picked her up, she was coming pretty quick.”
