25 August 2014

Having her first attempt at stakes level, My Sabeel relished the Heavy10 track conditions for trainer Kevin Moses, the mare’s fourth trainer.
“She is seven years old now but she is racing at her best,” commented Moses. “Since I have had her she has only been unplaced once.
“The wet track helped her, she enjoys a heavy surface. She has eaten everything since the race and is jumping out of her skin. She will probably go to the Mona Lisa Stakes (5 September) next.”
My Sabeel’s win capped a good day for the kiwis at Randwick with Surpass (NZ) providing Savabeel with a winning double and Group 1 winner Tiger Tees (NZ) (Dubawi) triumphant in the day’s main race – the Group 2 Warwick Stakes. Tiger Tees’ younger half-brother by Captain Rio, Terravista, was also successful on the programme, winning the Group 3 Show County Quality.
Starting from barrier 7 in the 10-horse field that contained proven stakes quality horses such as Group 1 winner Diamond Drille (Al Maher), My Sabeel raced on the pace and wide on the track for leading jockey Glyn Schofield.
Halfway down the home straight My Sabeel took over from leader Angel Bee (NZ) (Pins), surging through the ground to win by an ever-widening margin from Bennetta (General Nediym) who just grabbed Angel Bee for second.
“We were rock-hard fit and we raced on the pace which was an advantage on the day. The track may not have suited the others but she just went away from them.
“The way she is going I think she will be hard to beat next time, she is very happy and is loving her racing.”
Saturday’s victory was My Sabeel’s sixth career win and took her prizemoney earned to A$285,365 for her owners Mr F Scali & Mr S N Wood. My Sabeel was passed in at the 2009 Karaka Select Sale from Dormello Stud.
Bred by Graeme Rogerson, The Whitby Bloodstock Trust & T Wells, My Sabeel is one of four foals to race for her dam Wailing Countess (Entrepreneur), all of them are winners. Wailing Countess is a half-sister to multiple South African stakes winner Twany Run (Runyon) and her dam Wailing (Palace Music) is a three-quarter-sister to triple Group 1 winner Naturalism (Palace Music).
My Sabeel became the 33rd stakes winner for her sire Savabeel who enjoyed his best season last season, siring 13 stakes winners including six in Australia headed by Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes winner Lucia Valentina (NZ).
