The Kevin Myers trained five-year-old now boasts 13 wins from his 34 starts across New Zealand and Australia. This is Scapolo’s third stakes victory, after winning the Group 2 Coupland’s Bakeries Mile and the Listed Great Easter Stakes last season.
Going forward in the early stages, Terry Moseley had his first ride on Scapolo to race fourth on the rail behind Sureasyouwereborn (NZ) (Lucky Unicorn) who took the lead. Travelling at a steady tempo, Scapolo eased his way up alongside Sir Amron (NZ) (Civics) to be in third place with 1200m to run.
With the field approaching the home straight, Scapolo pulled away from the rail to race three-wide and battled to the line, driving forward to win by three-quarters-of-a-length over Surasyouwereborn with third place going to Miss Three Stars (NZ) (Perfectly Ready).
The five-year-old gelding has earned his owners, Anne, Khalif, Rick, Sandy & Teneka Hill, a total of $465,166 in prizemoney to date.
Scapolo was purchased at the Karaka 2011 Select Yearling Sale by Kevin Myers for $40,000 from his breeders, The Oaks Stud.
The son of Bachelor Duke is out of Kadesa (Zabeel) who is a full-sister to Zingo (Zabeel), winner of the Listed Rain Lover Plate.
