Scouting Wide Broadens Scope with Second Listed Win

NZB graduate Scouting Wide (Zabeel x Gardd) was one of three kiwi stakeswinners across the Tasman at the weekend, claiming his second black type win when he took out the Listed STC W J McKell Cup (2400m) at Rosehill on Saturday. The five-year-old's first listed win came in December when he won the STC Christmas Cup (2400m) by three-quarters of a length.
Scouting Wide is one of 131 individual stakes winners for champion Cambridge Stud sire Zabeel which puts him in the same lofty company as the likes of Savabeel, Don Eduardo and Octagonal.
Bred by Plowman Bloodstock and bought by Steve Brem at the 2006�Karaka�Premier Yearling Sale from Windsor Park Stud for $200,000, the promising galloper is now raced by a group that includes his trainer, Tim Martin. With four wins and four seconds this season, the gelding has shown a consistent rise up the Australian staying ranks.
With a nomination for the A$300,000 Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2400m) Scouting Wide joins Crossthestart (Cape Cross), Vision and Power (Carnegie), Indikator (Sandtrap), Tinseltown (Pentire) and Sir Slick (Volksraad) as one of a number of New Zealand-bred nominees for the 12 June race.
Meanwhile at Doomben on Saturday New Zealand made its presence felt with Metal Bender (Danasinga x Jacqwin) taking the A$500,000 Group 1 Doomben Cup (2020m) in his final stride.� Trainer Chris Waller has indicated that Metal Bender, who now has three Group 1 wins to his name, will now be spelled, with the Group 1 Cox Plate a potential target next season.
Waller also trained third placegetter and fellow kiwi, Triple Honor (Honours List).
Earlier in the day at Doomben fellow New Zealand bred performer Wealth Princess (San Luis x Wealth Star) won theA$150,000 Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m). This was the four-year-old's second black type win and brings her impressive tally to six wins from nine starts.
An overview of Karaka graduate performances from Friday and the weekend reveals an additional nine wins in Australia, three wins in Hong Kong, three victories in Singapore and six in Macau.
