Second Time Lucky for 2YO Fillies
28 April 2006
After a deluge of rain overnight saw Avondale's meeting on Anzac Day abandoned, the Listed New Zealand Bloodstock 2YO Fillies Stakes (1200m) has been added to Cambridge Jockey Club's race-day on Saturday.
So to Te Rapa they head, minus four scratchings including promising fillies Imananabaa (Anabaa x Iman) and Matata (Black Minnaloushe x Flood).
Heading the field is the Group 3 Taranaki RC Ford 2YO Classic (1200m) winner Solvini (Bertolini x Paris Sky). The Stephen and Trevor McKee trained filly is Bertolini's leading performer from his first crop to race. Bertolini stands at Rich Hill Stud in Cambridge and at this year's National Yearling Sales Series his progeny averaged NZ$22,600.
Trevor McKee purchased Solvini from Karaka Downs/Soliloquy Lodge draft at the 2005 Karaka Select Yearling Sale for NZ$20,000.
Bertolini is represented by two other runners with the Rogerson Autridge trained Miss Alini (Bertolini x Cidermite) and the Moroney's It's Only Talk (Bertolini x Banter). Paul Moroney purchased It's Only Talk from the 2005 Karaka Select Sale for NZ$20,000 from Windsor Park Stud.
The Rogerson/Autridge stable also have trial winner and maiden place-getter on debut, Chartreuse (St Petersburg x Imzadi) contesting the NZ$30,000 purse.
Lance O'Sullivan has a three pronged attack, with maiden winner Keep the Passion (Keeper x Impassion) leading the charge along with Like Me Wild (Cape Cross x Hayley's Abby) and Bonaichi (Fusaichi Pegasus x Bonanova).
Leading first season sire, Black Minnaloushe, has two runners with Shortblackmini (Black Minnaloushe x Miss Opera) and Jazella (Black Minnaloushe x Jazzmatazz).
The Graeme Nicholson trained, Shortblackmini, is one of the more experienced fillies in the race with six raceday starts under her belt, although she is still hunting for her first win. Donna and Dean Logan's Jazella will be facing her first day at the races after three trails where she was victorious in her last two.
The rest of the field is made up by Rapid Rielle (Shink King), Nervada (Sandtrap x Jabeske), Bianca (Painted Black x Blanche Ameila), Magic Tryst (Magic Ring x Our Tristajet), Highden Seek (Sakura Seeking x Sarapippilini) and Veloce Bella (Volksraad x Wave to Lottie).
The Cambridge Jockey Club's Saturday meeting also features the New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance 1600.
