A year after finishing second in the Group 3 Tui Anniversary (1600m), Karaka graduate Seize The Moment (NZ) (Pins) returned to Trentham on Saturday and went one better in the $70,000 race.

Ridden by Matt Cameron for trainer Stephen Marsh, the six-year-old was handily placed throughout the race and took control after turning for home. Aotearower (NZ) (Shamardal) and the winner’s stablemate Thee Auld Floozie (NZ) (Mastercraftsman) tried to run him down in the straight, but Seize The Moment fought them off and held on by a determined half-length.

“He loves a dogfight,” Cameron said. “The stablemate came up to win it, but he really fought.

“We decided to go forward today and take luck out of the equation. He’s as tough as they come.”

Seize The Moment was purchased at the 2012 Premier Sale at Karaka for $50,000 by syndicators Go Racing. The six-year-old has now had 28 starts for seven wins, 15 placings and more than $225,000 in prize-money.

This was the first stakes win for Seize The Moment, who had previously placed in four black-type events including last year’s Anniversary.
