Selwyn River Sale Tomorrow
25 March 2010
The sun is set to shine tomorrow for the Selwyn River Stud Unreserved Dispersal Sale at the Stud in Christchurch from 1pm.
Those attending the sale will also be treated to a parade of the Stud's resident sire Edenwold shortly before selling commences at 1pm. The majority of the 70 strong catalogue feature the champion Canadian 2YO of his year as either their sire or covering sire. In total 22 weanlings, 30 broodmares (11 with foals with foot), 15 yearlings and three broken in two-year-olds will go under the hammer.
Recently providing three of the lots on offer with an exciting pedigree update was Corporal Jones (Pentire x Assesarose by Conquistarose) who finished an exciting second to Military Move (Volksraad x All Night Party by Just a Dancer) in the $2.2million Group 1 New Zealand Derby earlier this month.
A full-sister to the dam of Corporal Jones, Bibury, will be offered at Lot 39 with the mare covered by Edenwold in the spring. Also on offer are two colts from Bibury, a yearling at Lot 64 by Spectatorial and a weanling at Lot 14 by Edenwold. The colts are half-brothers to the winner of four in Macau, Apollo Warrior (My Halo).
Providing a boost for Lots 31 and 60, the promising Strike the Tiger (Bel Esprit x Bonnie Lassy by Straight Strike) is now the winner of three of his four starts and added a stakes win in the Listed TTC Gold Sovereign Stakes (1200m) to take his earnings to over A$130,000.
Quality Marmalade (Masterclass x Orange Walk by Spectacular Love) at Lot 31, will be sold with her Edenwold filly at foot plus having been covered by the sire in spring. Her Group 3 ARC Ladies Mile winning dam, Orange Walk is a half-sister to Bonny Lassy, the dam of Strike the Tiger.
Also on offer is her yearling filly by the Stud's other resident sire, the six-time winning Hong Kong galloper, Lord of Warriors.
Coming off the back of a last start second in the Group 1 WRC Telegraph Handicap, the Mike Moroney-trained Tootsie (Pins x Hyades by O'Reilly) provided some extra black-type to the pedigree of Lot 21 by winning the Group 3 MVRC Mannerism Stakes (1400m). Offered by Berkeley Stud, Lot 21 is a weanling filly by My Halo from Habalook (Danasinga), whose dam Habaine (Centaine) is a half-sister to Hyades.
