Senorita Dane Calls the Shots in the New Zealand Bloodstock Canterbury Belle Stakes
28 September 2004
Senorita Dane's (Senor Pete x Snadame) triumph in the Listed New Zealand Bloodstock Canterbury Belle stakes was a minor upset for punters as the seventeen dollar shot galloped to victory with second place-getter Innate (Towkay x She's A Gun) offering the only challenge in the dying stages.
The race was the first victory for the Paul Harris trained filly who had shown promise in previous starts but failed to finish better than third.
Innate, who is trained by Leda McNeilly and owned by broadcasting personality, Adrian Clark, was purchased at last year's New Zealand Bloodstock South Island Sale of two-year-olds for $5,000. Little Avondale Stud bred and sold the filly.
In third, three-and-a-half lengths from the winner, was the Mark Walker trained Blooming (Stravinsky x Down The Avenue).
The points table after the first race of the Series is:
Senorita Dane 7
Innate 3
Blooming 1
The next race in the New Zealand Bloodstock Southern Filly of the Year Series is the Listed New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance Stakes on 28th March 2005 at Canterbury Jockey Club.
In the meantime the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Series continues in two weeks time with the Indian Danehill Lowland Stakes at Masterton Racing Club on 9 October.
