Sensational Saturday Sees 8 Winners for NZ in Singapore

13 November 2005

In another fantastic result for New Zealand in Singapore, New Zealand horses laid claim to 8 of the 11 races on the card at Kranji on Saturday, including a New Zealand bred trifecta in the feature event of the day, the Group 3 Stewards Cup (1400m).

The feature race for three year olds came at Race 9, which saw Lim's Zerperb (NZ) (Zerpour x Hugging) fight out the finish with fellow Kiwi, Robbins (NZ) (Istidaad x Sapphire Queen), to beat him on the line. World Delight (NZ) finished in third place to complete the New Zealand trifecta.

All three are graduates of the Karaka sales ring. The John Meagher-trained Lim's Zerperb, bred by Bloomsbury Stud, and Steven Burridge-trained World Delight, were both purchased from the Festival Yearling Sale for NZ$20,000 and NZ$18,000 respectively. World Delight was bred in Matamata by Paramount Lodge.

Exciting Ready to Run Sale graduate, Robbins, had to be content with a second placing at this his third start, following two wins from his first two starts. Bred by Mr S Tong in Tauranga, he was bought for NZ$60,000 by his trainer, Laurie Laxon.

New Zealand horses had seven other wins on the day:

Race 1: King Kaap (NZ) (Kaapstad x Dellewood) won the first of the day for trainer, John Meagher. King Kaap was sold for NZ$240,000 at the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale.

Race 2: A first career win for four year old Flying Surprise (NZ) (Haayil x Crazie Punt) in the 1600m Maiden event.

Race 5: The Class 3 1400m race was won by the Laurie Laxon-trained Yaakeen (NZ) (Volksraad x Bohola), a NZ$35,000 Premier Sale graduate bred by Fayette Park Stud.

Race 6: Three year old, No Time To Wait (NZ) (Almutawakel x Cool Babe), recorded his first career win in style with a convincing three length victory. Purchased from the Karaka Select Yearling Sale for NZ$30,000 and trained by Don Baertschiger, No Time To Wait now has a win, two seconds a third from his four starts.

Race 7: A New Zealand quinella saw four year old Lion City Hero (NZ) (Mellifont x Melody Tempo) beat Embassy Suites (NZ) (O'Reilly x Pixie Dust) by a length and a half in the Class 3 1400m event. Lion City Hero is trained by Danny Murphy.

Race 10: The race following the Group 3 feature saw the third New Zealand quinella of the meeting with Diwan (NZ) (Sandtrap x Our Good Win) defeating Superior Strike (NZ) (Tale of the Cat) in the Class 5 1400m event. Five year old Diwan was sold as a weanling at Karaka for $7,500. Superior Strike is a NZ$31,000 graduate of the Karaka Ready to Run Sale.

Race 11: The last race of the meeting saw a victory for Little Avondale Stud sire, Towkay, with a win by King Towkay (NZ) (Towkay x Cause for Applause) in the Class 4 1200m event. King Towkay was purchased as a two year old from New Zealand Bloodstock's Spring Mixed Bloodstock Sale for the bargain price of NZ$300. He is a full brother to Group 3 winner in New Zealand, Opiki.
