Showing a World of Ability

2 January 2014

The lightly raced three-year-old Show the World (NZ) (High Chaparral) was triumphant in the Group 2 $100,000 The Sound Championship Stakes (2100m) at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day announcing his rise to prominence with Group 1 races earmarked for the gelding in 2014.

SHOW THE WORLD

Show the World (NZ) wins the Group 2 The Sound Championship Stakes at Ellerslie.

The son of High Chaparral was having only his fourth career start with the gelding never finishing out of the first three including a runner-up placing in the Listed Championship Stakes Prelude at his last start for trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman.

Ridden by leading jockey Opie Bosson, Show the World was able to get across to the rail from barrier 7 and settled mid-field early in the race.

As the pace quickened near the 600m Bosson started to improve on Show the World and was in a position to challenge at the top of the straight. The pair hit the front at the 200m mark and held off the late challenge from runner-up Blizzard (NZ) (Any Suggestion) who completed a Karaka quinella.

“We thought he would run a good race but you can never be too confident,” commented Baker. “He is promising stayer so we thought he would go alright.

“He is bred to be a stayer, bred on the same cross as Dundeel. This guy is a big lanky horse and time will help as he continues to improve.

“He is having a short break now with the possibility of going to Australia for races like the Group 1 AJC Derby.”

It was the second victory in Show the World’s short career that has earned his owners, G J & Mrs L M Moore, $75,375 in prizemoney. The three-year-old was offered at the 2012 Karaka Premier Sale by Brighthill Farm but was unable to reach his reserve for breeder Mrs L M Moore who is still in the ownership of the horse.

Show the World is out of Group 1 Auckland Cup winner Bazelle (Zabeel) and is the second winner for his dam. He is bred on the same High Chaparral – Zabeel cross as current star racehorse (It’s a) Dundeel, also trained by Baker and Forsman.
