Snipight Supplements Wairoa Victory With $10,000 Mercedes Bonus

24 January 2003

Snipight (Snippets x Spectacular Light) proved too good for her rivals in yesterday's Headstoneworld.co.nz Sapling Dash (1050m) at Wairoa and as an enrolled horse picked up the Mercedes $10,000 Bonus.

In a tight finish the more experienced Snipights prevailed by a neck over the fast finishing debutant Khan (Al Akbar x Barbara's Bay) with Stonecrest (Soviet Star x Love in Roses) a further length away in third place. The first three home were all Mercedes Bonus runners.

Snipight's win continued a remarkable run for trainer Mark Walker and owners' the Tauranga Racing Syndicate, as their other star 2YOs King's Chapel and Maroofity have already claimed Mercedes Super Bonuses earlier in the season. King's Chapel won the $150,000 Mercedes Super Bonus Prelude for Colts and Geldings, as well as a $50,000 Jackpot Bonus, while Maroofity pocketed a $10,000 Mercedes Bonus and ran second in the Mercedes Super Bonus Prelude for Colts and Geldings.

Snipight was purchased by Mr David Ellis, the manager of the Tauranga Racing Syndicate, at the 2002 New Zealand Bloodstock Select Fillies Sale for $76,000, from the draft of Karaka Downs.

The next race in the Super Mercedes Bonus Series is on Monday January 27 at the Avondale Jockey Club with a $10,000 Mercedes bonus up for grabs. The series then builds up to the highlight, the $500,000 Mercedes Classique, at Te Rapa on Saturday February 1.

All graduates of next week's New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sales Series are eligible to be enrolled in the Mercedes Super Bonus Series.
