South Island Sale Drafts Boosted with Recent Group 1 Winners

Recent Group 1-performing Kiwi-breds have provided a timely boost to several pedigree pages, along with other outstanding performances, for the upcoming New Zealand Bloodstock South Island Sale held at the Riding for the Disabled Building at the Canterbury Agricultural Park in Christchurch on 20 April.
Star filly Savvy Coup (NZ) (Savabeel) fought out until the end in the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks to win by a length and a quarter. Trained by Michael and Matthew Pitman, she has had a strong three-year-old campaign with 13 starts for five wins including the Group 3 Eulogy Stakes.
Mansfield Farm will offer a colt by Ocean Park, Lot 9, who is closely related to Savvy Coup. He is also related to Group 2 Japan-New Zealand International Trophy winner Ocean Emperor (NZ) (Zabeel) and multiple stakes winner Battle Hero (Stratum) who recently claimed two black-type sprint races back-to-back.
Another star three-year-old in Grunt (NZ) (O’Reilly) has made headlines in Australia with a last start win in the Group 1 Australian Guineas. Purchased and trained my Mick Price, he has won four of his five starts including the Group 3 Hayes Stakes. Mansfield Farm will also offer Lot 50, a colt by Road to Rock, who is from the same family as Grunt.
The only filly entered in the Group 1 New Zealand Derby, Danzdanzdance (Mastercraftsman) had a stellar performance to finish third. Trained by Donna Logan and Chris Gibbs, she has also placed second in the Group 2 Avondale Guineas. A colt by Mettre en Jeu, consigned as Lot 77 by Long Acres Stud, is from the same winning family.
Clearview Park Stud are set to offer two fillies that have also received timely pedigree updates. Lot 83, by first season sire Ghibellines, is from the same family as Group 1 Randwick Guineas winner Kementari (Lonhro) who also won the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes and Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes leading into the Guineas. A daughter of Gallant Guru, Lot 69, is closely related to Group-winning sprinter Battle Hero.
Lot 106, Three Valleys Swiss Ace colt, is from the same family as Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott’s Group 1 Surround Stakes performer Shumookh (Dream Ahead). A winner on debut, he has placed in two of his five starts including the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes.
Two current Group winners feature on the pedigree pages of Berkley Stud’s Lots 35 and 38. The son of Proisir (Lot 38) is from the same family as exciting filly Sunlight (Zoustar) who has won five races from seven starts including a placing at her last start in the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes and a win in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes. The Super Easy colt (Lot 35) is from the same family as last start Group 2 AV Kewney Stakes winner Bella Martini (Stratum) and multiple stakes winner Volcanic Ash (Magnus).
A recent win in the Singapore Listed CS Hayes Memorial Cup by Lite’n In My Veins (Henrythenavigator) has brought with it significant updates to three of White Robe Lodge’s yearlings by their first season sire Ghibellines. Lots 91, 98 and 101 all come from the same family.
Southern based sires continue to deliver results with their stakes-winning progeny this season. Berkley Stud’s Highly Recommended sired Group 2 winner Sumstreetsumwhere (NZ) who has subsequently been sold to Hong Kong, White Robe Lodge’s Gallant Guru sired Group 3 winner Tommy Tucker (NZ) and Linwood Park’s Echoes of Heaven sired Singapore Listed winner Countofmontecristo (NZ).

All yearlings purchased at the 2018 South Island Sale are eligible to enter the lucrative Karaka Million Series which comprises of two $1 million races - the 2019 Karaka Million 2YO and the 2020 Karaka Million 3YO Classic, as well as the $100,000 CollinsonForex Karaka Cup for the remainder of their career.
The Sale will be held at the Riding for the Disabled Building at the Canterbury Agricultural Park in Christchurch this Friday 20 April, commencing from Lot 1 at 11am.
