South Island Sale Interest Hotting Up
5 August 2005
With just days to go until New Zealand Bloodstock's annual South Island Sale in Christchurch next Friday 12 August, interest is mounting in this year's bumper catalogue.
Boasting the strongest catalogue seen in recent years, the sale features 227 entries including 128 select two year olds, 66 general two year olds, 15 broodmares, 14 yearlings and 4 untried horses.
With automatic nomination into New Zealand Bloodstock's National Yearling Sale for yearlings purchased at the South Island Sale there will be countless pinhooking opportunities available.
New Zealand Bloodstock Marketing & PR Manager, Petrea Vela commented, "We saw a leap in quality offered at this Sale last year and breeders and vendors look to have built on this even further this year. We've had a lot of interest in this year's catalogue, amongst both local and international buyers, including from Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and Macau, and they can expect some great buying opportunities there next week."
Graduates of this Sale include Hustler, Le Celibataire, Second Coming, Silky Red Boxer, plus Hong Kong sensation, Super Kid. After struggling to make his reserve when he was offered at the 2001 South Island Sale by the then Wynyard Lodge Stud, Super Kid went on to win the Group 3 Waikato Guineas at his fourth start racing as Cheerine Kid. Racing in Hong Kong he claimed the coveted Hong Kong Champions & Chater Cup and was crowned Hong Kong's 2004 Champion Stayer. The Steven Chow trained, Six Aces, a prolific winner in Macau with 11 wins to date, has also been flying the flag for this Sale of late.
In recent years this Sale has cemented a reputation as a respected source of genuine, untried two year olds at great value for money. This year sees over 70 sires represented including sires such as Al Akbar, Danasinga, Danske, Howbaddouwantit, Pins, Pentire, O'Reilly and more represented by Select Session two year olds.
