Star Start to Season for Jokers Wild

4 September 2006

New Zealand's champion two-year-old last season, Jokers Wild (Black Minnaloushe x Miss Rory), trounced his challengers with a commanding win in the HAWKEYE @ STONEY BRIDGE PREMIER 3YO over 1200m at Hastings on Saturday.

Bred by Jo Wilding of Te Mania Thoroughbreds in partnership with Mr C W Wong and Bee Tech Hoong, Jokers Wild was a NZ$40,000 purchase by Paul Moroney at last year's Karaka Select Sale. His connections have since rejected an offer of $1 million for the colt last season saying he was not for sale.

Jokers Wild has two close relatives set for the Karaka auction ring this summer, with a half-brother by Don Eduardo entered in the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale in November and a Montjeu yearling half-brother entered in the Karaka Premier Sale in January. Miss Rory is currently in foal to Van Nistelrooy.

Joker's Wild now has five wins from just nine starts including two Group 1 wins at his last two starts earlier in the year. The colt's next appearance will be the Hawkes Bay Guineas on 7 October.
