Storming Finish Earns Marquardt Second Listed Win

Resilient mare Marquardt put in an outstanding performance at Randwick on Saturday to claim her second black type victory in the Listed Starstable.com.au Nivison (1200m).

The New Zealand Bloodstock graduate was positioned towards the rear of the field early before swinging wide in the straight and with a powerful burst of speed stormed home to pip Dorf Command by half a length. A length away for third was race-favorite Kiss From A Rose.

Trained by John Thompson for Patinack Farm, Marquardt gained her first listed win as a three-year-old in the MRC Twilight Glow Stakes (1400m) in November. The daughter of Shamardal now has $305,625 in stakes earnings to her name and has clocked up three wins and three placings from 11 career starts.

Thompson had high praise for the tough four-year-old.

"She is a war-horse and you would not know. She's got three steel pins in a front leg and she broke her pelvis. You can't give this mare enough credit."

Out of Centaine mare Centrefold Angel, Marquardt was purchased by Patinack Farm for $100,000 from her breeder, Little Avondale Stud, at the 2008 Premier Yearling Sale.

�Sire of dual Group 1 winner Faint Perfume, Shamardal has seven yearlings nominated for Karaka 2011. The National Yearling Sales Series is set to run from 31 January - 7 February at Karaka with catalogues available 26 November.
