Free Way was purchased as a colt at New Zealand Bloodstock's 2002 Premier Yearling Sale. He was sold by Cambridge Stud and purchased for $44,000 by Mr Yip Chor Hong. The 2005 Festival Yearling Sale offers a bay filly from his dam Mimosa. The filly, lot 1055, is by Keeper and being sold on account of Stonehaven Lodge.
The Hennessey Handicap over 1650m, was a truly kiwi win when trainer Paul O'Sullivan, jockey Shane Dye and horse Join Victory (Tale Of The Cat x Tisolde) joined forces to take the race. Join Victory was sold by Waikato Stud at the 2002 Premier Yearling Sale. Rob McAnulty's International Bloodstock Consultants bought the colt for $60,000.
The next race was won by the Hallmark Stud-bred Glorious Rhythm (Rhythm x Danjiki). Originally sold by Hallmark as a yearling to Sapphire Thoroughbreds he was resold at the New Zelaland Bloodstock Ready To Run Sale. Waikato Bloodstock 2000 Ltd purchased the horse for $145,000.
Grand Fighter (Housebuster x Ebony Glow) then went on to win the class 3 Police Cup over 1200m.
Rounding out the successful evening was another win by Shane Dye, this time aboard Shabu Shabu (Marscay x Funny Features) in the Fenwich Handicap. Shabu Shabu, a chestnut gelding, was a 2001 Premier Yearling Sale graduate where he was sold by Westbury Stud. He was purchased by New Zealand Bloodstock as agent for $180,000. Shabu Shabu is a half brother to dual stakes winner Classic Clare (Gold Brose) and also has a half sister in the Premier Yearling Sale in 2005.
