Super Easy (NZ) Strikes in Sprint Series

29 April 2013

Singapore’s reigning Horse of the Year Super Easy (NZ) (Darci Brahma x Parfore) made a stylish return to winning form last night at Kranji taking the S$500,000 Sgp-1 Lion City Cup (1200m), the third leg of the Singapore Sprint Series.

The Michael Freedman trained four-year-old went unbeaten in 12 starts in 2011 and 2012, including all three legs of Singapore’s 3YO Triple Crown, and was beaten for the first time in October last year when running second in the Sgp-1 Kranji Mile.

After contesting two international group races in Hong Kong this season, Super Easy returned to Singapore where he ran third to Karaka graduate Speedy Cat (Scaredee Cat) in the Sgp-3 Merlion Trophy fresh up, the second leg of the Singapore Sprint Series.

“I’ve always had faith in him, although the trip to Hong Kong didn’t go to plan. He also ran below expectations first-up but he’s been a terrific horse, probably the best horse I’ve ever had, and I’m thrilled he’s won another Group 1 race for us,” commented Freedman.

Last night’s race saw the son of Darci Brahma turn the tables on Speedy Cat in a smart performance to give Karaka graduates two of the three legs of the Sprint Series.

Super Easy was a class above his rivals as he raced just off the pace and showed that characteristic turn-of-foot to stride away from rival Mr Big to win by a comfortable 1.25 lengths with Speedy Cat finishing well for third.

Super Easy was ridden by Singapore’s champion jockey Joao Moreira, who has established a wonderful record on the entire, riding him to all 13 of his Singapore victories.

Stopping the clock at 1.08.66 on a rain affected surface, it was a big performance by Super Easy and one that understandably impressed his trainer Michael Freedman who also trains Mr Big, giving him the race quinella.

“It’s a big relief more than anything else,” said Freedman. “It’s been a few months since Super Easy won his last race and it’s good to see him win again.

“It’s onwards and upwards to the S$1 million Group 1 International KrisFlyer Sprint (on 19 May) now. Mr Big will come on from today’s race and Super Easy is back to his best.”

Super Easy is raced by the Joy N Happiness Stable and has now won 13 of his 17 starts in Singapore and Hong Kong for over S$1.78 million in stakes.

Bred by Michael Ryan, Super Easy was offered by Esker Lodge at New Zealand Bloodstock's 2010 Karaka Premier Sale where he was purchased by Blue Sky Thoroughbreds for $140,000.

Super Easy is the seventh individual stakes winner this season for his sire Darci Brahma who has celebrated two new Group 1 winners this season in Nashville and top two-year-old filly Recite.

The sire of nine stakes winners in total, three of which are Group 1 winners, Darci Brahma stands at the Oaks Stud and will stand for a fee of $40,000 + GST for the 2013 season.
