Super Easy (NZ) Stuns in Second Leg of Triple Crown
23 April 2012
Singapore's superstar Super Easy (NZ) continued his unbeaten domination of the three-year-old ranks last night with a convincing victory in the S$350,000 Sgp-2 3YO Classic (1400m) at Kranji, the second leg of the Singapore Triple Crown.
Super Easy (Darci Brahma x Parfore) came into the race unbeaten in eight Singapore starts, including the first leg of the three-race Series already under his belt, the Sgp-3 Singapore Sprint (1200m), at his last start.
Last night's race saw Super Easy get back in transit, running sixth on the rail with champion jockey Joao Moreira in the saddle. At the 400 metre mark the colt had some work to do to catch the leaders but when a gap opened up in the straight, the son of Darci Brahma used his acceleration to devastating effect, putting the field away by one-and-a-quarter-lengths.
With just the final race of the Triple Crown remaining, the Michael Freedman trained colt will now be aimed at the Sgp-1 Singapore Guineas (1600m) on 18 May where he will be looking to join the likes of fellow Karaka graduate Better Than Ever and Gingerbread Man who have also won the Triple Crown.
The Singapore Guineas will see the son of Darci Brahma step into the unknown as he will compete over a mile for the first time, but his trainer Michael Freedman is confident he has the distance well within himself.

"I was probably a bit concerned he was back a length further than I wanted, but Joao Moreira knows him so well and is such a fantastic rider. At the corner, he just needed some galloping room and once he found it, he has such a good turn of foot that he just left them behind."
Raced by the Joy N Happiness Stable, Super Easy is now unbeaten in nine Singapore starts, three at stakes level, and an overseas campaign for the colt may be on the table later in the year.
"As he's a colt, I was thinking of maybe sending him to Melbourne during the Spring Carnival to a race like the Group 1 Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield which would suit him, but we'll have to discuss it with the owners first," commented Freedman.
Bred by M J Ryan, Super Easy was offered by Esker Lodge at New Zealand Bloodstock's 2010 Karaka Premier Sale where he was purchased by Blue Sky Thoroughbreds for $140,000. Raced by the Joy N Happiness Stable, Super Easy has now taken his stakes earnings to over S$840,000.
Super Easy was one of five New Zealand bred winners at Kranji last night. Opening the kiwi's account was the Yeoh Kheng Chye trained Three Kings (NZ) (Kingsttenham) who brought up the third win of his career in the Class 5 Lead to Victory Handicap (1600m).
The fifth on the card saw Sulmona (NZ) (Van Nistelrooy) hold his consistent form for trainer Michael Clements winning over 1200 metres after running two places in his last two starts. The O'Reilly gelding Urban Dancer (NZ) was the first of two winners for trainer Michael Freedman when he took the third win of his career in the Big Maverick Handicap (1600m), taking his stakes earnings to over S$150,000.
There are few meetings when Laurie Laxon does not saddle a winner and the champion trainer saw Sir Fleetwood (NZ) (Riviera) make it five for New Zealand bred horses in the Class 5 Handicap (1200m), the fourth win of his 28 start career.
