Super Good (NZ) Just That in Singapore

16 April 2012

The Joy N Happiness Stable continued its winning affiliation with Karaka graduates at Kranji on Friday night with exciting youngster Super Good (NZ) winning his race debut in the S$95,000 Aushorse Golden Horseshoe Preview (1200m).

Sporting the same 'Super' name as the Joy N Happiness Stable's star three-year-old Super Easy, Super Good (Fastnet Rock x Tonic) had already given a glimpse of his ability in a four-and-a-half-length barrier trial win prior to Friday night's race.

The Michael Freedman trained two-year-old was ridden by Stephen Baster in the Golden Horseshoe Preview and showed that he is a horse with a big future, shooting through a gap at the top of the straight and putting the race away in the matter of a few strides to win by 2.5 lengths.

Bred by Paul Ryan, Super Good was purchased by Michael Freedman and Michael Wallace from Tom & Shelley Murtagh's Esker Lodge at New Zealand Bloodstock's 2011 Karaka Premier Sale for $170,000.

Freedman, who also trains kiwi Super Easy for the Joy N Happiness Stable, was clearly impressed with the performance.

"He's a typical colt and tonight he got a bit stirred up, but I think he will go right through his grades and probably over further as his dam [Tonic, by Blues Traveller] was a winner over a bit of ground.

"We will see how he pulls up and assess where he goes next. We'll look at the final race (Aushorse Golden Horseshoe on 18 May), but the Juvenile Championship in July is also a possibility.

"I think he's definitely got the potential to be targeted at the Three-Year-Old series next year and a race like the Singapore Guineas would definitely be on the map."
