Super Success Continues for Singapore Star

Singapore's star sprinter Why Be (Success Express x Charybdis) continued his sensational win tally by clocking up his 18th win from 22 starts at Kranji on Sunday night. 

Why Be found the front half way down the back straight and won the S$200,000 Fischer Stakes (1200m) by two lengths from Capablanca, with Always Fast another length back in third.

Why Be's trainer, Laurie Laxon, had collected the Horse of the Year trophy for Why Be the previous evening following the four-year-old's outstanding run of success which has seen him finish out of the money just once in his career. Why Be is now the winner of over S$1,378,000 in prize money for his owners, Perfectum Stable, while Laxon currently heads the Singapore Trainers Premiership, 19 wins ahead of Desmond Koh in second place.

Why Be was bred by Mr & Mrs S Tall of New South Wales and purchased as a yearling by Bruce Wallace at the 2004 Karaka Select Sale for NZ$26,000 from Chequers Stud.

Other New Zealand Bloodstock graduates to win on the night included Jaywin (Align x Iamascene) - racking up his fifth win from 15 starts - in the S$125,000 Kranji A Stakes (1600m) and Al Nader (Sandtrap x Danza Jig) and Individualist (Turbulent Dancer x Otehi Opal).

It was a successful day for the kiwi expatriate trainers with Stephen Gray and Bruce Marsh picking up a win apiece and Laxon two.   The other New Zealand-breds to win on the night included Istidado (Istidaad x Sail to Success), Royal Crown (Stark South x Reinette) and Up Ahead (Generous x Robbie's Choice).
